Award winning biographer of the Pinwill sisters, Arts & Crafts woodcarvers of Devon and Cornwall. Churches, and all things Devon & Cornwall, especially Dartmoor. You'll see stuff about churches, not for any religious reason but because I see churches as repositories of art paid for by the community and therefore belonging to the community.

The other week I went to the Keihin Cactus Club cactus and succulents show at the Ōfuna Botanical Garden again. As usual they had a huge selection of dirt-cheap, high quality plants 🤩💸

Ortegocactus macdougallii
Epithelantha micromeris var. ungnispina (かぐや姫)
Coryphantha elephantidens ‘Tanshi’ (短刺象牙丸)
Echinocactus horizonthalonius (太平丸)

Shallow #BBC reporting on expenditure on accomodation for migrants over the last 6 years omits to attribute it to #Brexit because the BBC forbade itself in 2016 to engage in journalistic appraisal of Brexit. How much was spent on hotels before Brexit BBC news Tsars? They serve up Right Wing talking points on a Monday morning that they scheduled as "news" last Friday afternoon. It is wearing & further undermines trust. Get a grip Labour. National Broadcaster is overtly undermining you.

"There is no ethical consumption under capitalism" doesn't mean "eh, don't worry about it", it means that you should consider alternatives that reduce or eliminate "consumption under capitalism".

Growing your own food. Repairing your stuff and the stuff of people around you. Foraging. Helping your neighbours. Establishing or borrowing from a library, be it for books, tools, toys, or anything else. Even creating free and open source software.

There are *lots* of ways you can satisfy your needs and goals without consumption under capitalism, you just won't learn about them from capitalist news and advertising channels.

Taking a walk to go see my Tawny Frogmouth friends is my favourite part of my routine these days. Quite wisely given their nests aren’t huge and it’s a bit windy the babies were mostly tucked safely under mum’s wing but one did briefly pop out. Dad somehow manages to sleep despite his small branch swaying

‘Damp and mould are the clearest signs of a system that isn’t working. For years, it’s been treated as an inconvenience. The instructions I’ve had from management have been: clean it, paint it, move on. No survey, no root cause, no urgency.’

I’ve worked on the frontline making social housing repairs – Awaab’s Law must bring real change

Awaab's Law comes into force on 27 October. Author Joe Carpenter used to fix social homes. He says the new law must change the system.

Let me repeat that. The Austrian federal ministry of economics migrated to Nextcloud Hub. All 1200 employees. The complete Hub with Files, Talk, Groupware, Office and Flow. No test but fully in production since 6 months. People like it. No complains. Other ministries are impressed and want to do the same. People who say that Open Source doesn’t work are wrong.

Universities UK data gives a clear idea how universities have been dealing with the sector's ingoing financial crisis:

It's notable that the largest rise has been in course closures, but while there has been a doubling of institutions making compulsory redundancies, what these figures miss is the range of universities currently operating voluntary severance programmes to shed staff (academic & professional).

This ongoing attrition towards staff is destroying Higher Education.
