The main relic of Svetitskhoveli Cathedral in Mtskheta (Georgia) is the ‘Holy Robe of Christ’, which is said to have been kept beneath a ciborium since the 17th century. A worshipper has prostrated herself before the monument.
According to legend, a Jew from Mtskheta named Elia was supposed to speak in Christ’s defence during his trial. However, he arrived too late and witnessed only the crucifixion.

The walled Georgian-orthodox Svetitskhoveli Cathedral in Mtskheta (Georgia) was built between 1010 and 1029 on the foundations of a 4th-century predecessor.
According to legend, Saint Nino chose this site at the confluence of two rivers (the Mtkvari/Kura and the Aragvi). Nino had initiated the Christianisation of the Georgian people. The cathedral is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Metekhi Church in Tbilisi (Georgia) towers over the Mtkvari (Kura) River; in front of it stands the equestrian statue of the Georgian King Vakhtang I Gorgasali, who is regarded as the founder of Tbilisi.
The ensemble comprising the church and the statue is one of the city’s landmarks.
The church was built in the 13th century, destroyed by the Mongols and rebuilt in 1289.
