I'm not an #Apple fan, but I do want a #smol phone in the form factor of the original #iPhone4 & #iPhoneSE (or #GalaxyS2 & #GalaxyS3)
- Even if that means it's gonna be chonky like an #Iridium9555!

There is no " #LegitimateReason " not to have a #HeadphoneJack.
The #GalaxyS5 had one and it was splash-proof and the #XperiaZ was advertised it with people jumping into lakes...

Same for #microSD slots, real #DualSIM [ #GalaxyS2duo, #Fairphone3Plus ], no-notch display [ #S2mini ],

As for all the #Junk: Just don't put #Google's #enshittified #Android on and instead go with like @e_mydata / #eOS or @LineageOS / #lineageOS.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpPiZiqWjyA&t=342s
I don't expect the folks of #GrapheneOS to ever get reasonable anymore as they sold out to #Motorola and are #Bootlickers trying to appease #Cyberfascists by enabling #Apps to demand " #DeviceAttestation "
- Which by design is #malware because noone but the owner & user has the right to inspect and attest the device...

Also instead of #Shitposting against folks, the people at #Nothing could've just chosen to go with a simple #FeaturePhone - #OS like #Nokia [now just a brand licensed by some Chinese Firm!] use for their #FeaturePhones and other cheapo brands, like #SwissTone [which has nothing to do with #Switzerland BTW and they had to print that out on their packaging!]....
- You can still just license #Symbian like those!

Also people would be fine with a #ThiccPhone if it meant it would use standard 14500 / 18650 / 21700 cells and have toolfree, hot-swappable batteries...
- Or at least have some thing easy to replace it with like the #Iridium9575 where it's just a Dzus-Fastener and off it pops!

Yes, those compromises are good.
NOONE can afford a € 1.000 + device!
Even € 500 is way too expensive.
And if that means I get a 720p15 screen, a low-end SoC and a thiccer device then so be it!

I mean, noone complains that the #Tangara is "too #THICC" despite it using #SD cards and running on the computing equivalent of #32bit #PotatoSalad aka. #ESP32 whilst being as much of a #chonker as the OG #iPod...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1C597AkhGtw
And it's sold out!

Also a #FingerprintSensor shouldn't even be in a device.
Just like any other #biometrics [looking at you #FaceID], it'll only be weaponized by armed thugs [regardless if state sponsored aka. #Police or not] to nonconsensually & violently unlock a phone!
- In fact that's why all my [former] employers literally banned using said features in lieu of proper passwords!

Instead, I wished some #manufacturers were to actually listen to people and do something new and unique.
- #MarcinPlaza has shown way more #creativity and #engineering with some #GhettoHacking...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qy_9w_c2ub0
That guy should be given like €120k a year and he'd be cranking out awesome stuff that'll make #Apple and #Samsung engineers shit their pants!

I mean, #Motorola at least made the #Iridium9500 & #Iridium9505 compatible with a #CellularNetwork by offering a " #CellularCasette " adaptor that could do #GSM900 [and some could even do garbage like #AMPS & #CDMA!] so that #Iridium users could roam on #GSM inside #Cities and get #Iridium where no #CellNetwork reached them!

And whilst #Iridium canceled any #Roaming, what prevents manufacturers from just slapping an #Iridium9523 with a SIM slot to the back of their devices?
- Or just have modular #baseband|s entirely?
If someone only wants to use #AX25, #LoRaWAN & #Meshtastic, that should be their right!

Like there's the #WiPhone and whilst it's not a #Smartphone, it seems to be a competent #SIP #Phone using #WiFi...
Also can we *please* have #TransparentElectronics back?

Like if I ever get the time, funding and tech in place to do the #NUCbook, you can bet your ass I'm gonna make a #transparent one simply because it's #beautyful...
- Just without shitty #PlasticClips and instead proper screws!!

@kkarhan Most people don't include state-sponsored actors in their threat model, and for those people biometric authentication offers superior protection than standard PIN or password authentication.
If you are concerned about being forcefully made to unlock your device then consider using biometric + PIN 2FA instead.
@tpaau17db Not really...
Even if your threat model is just "getting mugged on the street", what prevents a robber to forcibly authenticate someone and force them to unbind said device from any accounts?
- That's right, the latter one will still require a password!
NEVER use #biometric or 2FA as a security in that regard, because both are trivial to intercept or forge...
http://ftp.ccc.de/documentation/Fingerabdruck_Hack/fingerabdruck.mpg
@kkarhan Most devices supporting biometric authentication also have a retry limit on the biometric sensor, so one could, for example, repeatedly scan the wrong finger until the device locks and falls back to password auth. It's a minor security degradation at best.
Your example is also wrong on a fundamental level as both iPhones and most Android devices require a separate password to be put in order to reset the device.
@tpaau17db again:
Biometrics are not secure and noone should use them as a feature to authenticate someone!
- Not to mention all it needs is some distant observation.
So unless a device is designed with a "Decoy Mode" to switch into an innocent user account, this is not gonna work out!

Also I already covered that:
"That's right, the latter one will still require a password!"
