First coach is for checked luggage, the second one is this seater car. It was empty and locked but with the lights on the entire way I think. Then the sleeper cars.

Lounge cars with WiFi on each side of the dining car, followed by, well, the other half of the train. At some stations we would stop twice, first for the sleeper, then for the seated cars.

@serac The glass for the body of the building was manufactured by Canadian Pittsburgh Industries and was coloured using 2,500 oz (71,000 g) of gold, valued at CA$70 per pane at the time of installation.

@jonathan
We didn't scratch any of it off, I promise!
@serac 😂 You are on quite an adventure!

@serac Good ole F40PH, the last truly successful EMD passenger locomotive.

20 years ago, they hauled nearly every passenger train in North America. Now, VIA is one of the last operators, and like most, replacing them with Siemens Chargers

@serac Probably the widest Platform at Toronto Union Station😄
@serac Looks like you got a new Siemens set? Pity. The older LRC carriages are real nice.
@partim
I'm not familiar with the rolling stock over here, but I think we got an old one. Some of the oncoming trains seem to be newer.
@serac Hm. Must be something refurbished though. Those seats look suspiciously like previous generation ICE seats.
@partim @serac Yeah, the refitted the 1950s stainless steel heavyweight coaches in the 1990s with very 1990s seats. Those are gradually being phased out with the Siemens Venture sets (roughly, Railjet redesigned for North American crash safety standards).
@serac I hope Gare Centrale gets a glow up someday like Union Station got in Toronto.
@javensbukan
Giving a glow to these underground stations is difficult. On the other hand, it does make sense to create density at spots like these - not only for money-making, also as a passenger I value the oppotunities right at the station. Also the hotel we stayed at was built on top of the tracks

@serac Yeah! I feel like they could do a lot just to make it *brighter*.

It has puny metal halide lamps and frosted glass - Both could be improved to let more light in.

Nothing major needs redoing - just more light would help so much! And maybe a brighter floor.

@serac what is the name of the restaurant please?
@lareineZenobie
Restaurant Sammi & Sou. Bon Appetit!
@serac I can hear this picture hahahaha.

Every station features their own icon which resembles the place (although here you'd have to speak Aztec to understand it). This helps both analphabets and people not familiar with the names to find their way.

Changing from a metro line to another is covered by the fare of 5 pesos per person (so only a few cents of CHF/EUR/USD), while changing to Metrobús (6$) or Gondola (7$) isn't. They all use gates with the same prepaid card.

It's amazing how the human body adapts to the altitude.
@serac CMDX has an awesome subway system!
@serac Much more interesting than Graffiti Tags.
@doppelspurinsel
Absolutely. Graffiti are intended to be art, but too often pure vandalism. And there is a big difference here: a lot of the murals are private properties, with the owners supporting the murals (or even contributing to it). OK, the astronaut on my photo is on a school building.
