Glad to see a Canadian specific episode on 99% invisible podcast

But not a single word about Quebec or French language when you speak of CanCon and CRTC.

Spotify playlist for the episode.. 126 songs.. 2 in French.

Nothing more Canadian than seeing Francophone culture ignored I guess. Which is insane considering what Quebec brought on the musical front.

The MAPL Test - 99% Invisible

NOTE: During the production of this episode, over 120 Canadian musicians were mentioned in conversation with guests and sources—way too many to fit into an episode. As a way to shine a spotlight on the vast landscape of Canadian music, we have put together a playlist of these musicians for listeners. Listen on Spotify or

The historic 1941 photograph is a piece of anti-British propaganda from Japan.....

The image, titled "Anti British propaganda, Japan 1941," reflects growing anti-British sentiment in Japan leading up to the Pacific War.

The women, likely geisha, are holding their noses in disdain beside a picture of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill. The initials "W.C." under Churchill's portrait stand for both Winston Churchill and a "Water Closet" (toilet), symbolizing contempt.

For a long time I've considered Google as a close to neutral value proposition. Yes they controlled a hell of a lot, and they know arguably too much but it was always in their interest to offer you a deal where you personally benefited a somewhat equal amount and they funded the ecosystem that made it possible. Now though it's clear they've gone full Vader and altered the bargain. Now getting de-Googled feels existential.

In 1960, Ormond Gigli turned a doomed row of New York brownstones into something unforgettable. With no budget, he gathered 43 women, gave them full creative freedom, and placed them in empty windows just hours before demolition. Shot from a fire escape, the result wasn’t just a photo—it was a fleeting moment of beauty, frozen seconds before it vanished forever.

The Underwood Multi-tool (c. 1850)

Decades before the first Swiss Army knife (1891), London’s Underwood of Haymarket crafted this "harped" pocket kit. Designed for Victorian sportsmen, it features a hoof pick, saw, and corkscrew. A rare 19th-century masterpiece of portability.

Sí recomiendo Gatorta. Puebla casi esquina Insurgentes.
Delicioso, súper bien servido. El agua de jamaica cuesta $25 y es refil ilimitado. Mi torta es de “suadero con chorizo” vegano. Creo que es seitan. De verdad delicioso.
