Caccia iraniani erano vicinissimi all'attacco alla base militare Usa in Qatar, la più grande in Medio Oriente, quando i caccia qatarioti li hanno abbattuti nella loro prima missione di combattimento aereo. Lo rivela oggi la Cnn che cita due fonti informate su quanto successo lunedì mattina, quando i Guardiani della Rivoluzione iraniana hanno inviato due caccia Su-24 verso la base di al-Udeid, che solitamente ospita 10mila militari americani, e Ras Laffan, impianto per il gas naturale fondamentale per l'economia del Qatar. Secondo una fonte, i caccia iraniani erano "a due minuti" dai loro obiettivi, mentre un'altra specifica che gli aerei sono stati identificati visivamente e fotografati, con le immagini che mostrano che avevano "bombe e munizioni guidate". Da quando è stato avviato l'attacco israelo-americano contro l'Iran, Teheran ha usato centinaia di missili e droni per attaccare Paesi alleati degli Usa nella regione, ma la missione sul Qatar ha segnato la prima volta che ha usato caccia per colpire un Paese della regione.
Nel frattempo il Qatar ha annunciato l'intenzione di evacuare i residenti che vivono nei pressi dell'ambasciata di Washington a Doha, dopo gli attacchi iraniani di rappresaglia contro il paese del Golfo. "Le autorità competenti stanno evacuando i residenti che vivono nelle vicinanze dell'ambasciata statunitense come misura precauzionale temporanera", ha scritto il ministero degli Interni del Qatar su X. "È stato loro fornito un alloggio adeguato come parte delle necessarie misure preventive", ha aggiunto. In precedenza il ministero aveva esortato i cittadini a "restare all'interno delle proprie case e degli edifici" e a "evitare di uscire se non in caso di necessità".

According to a source, the Iranian fighters were “two minutes” from their targets, while another specified that the aircraft were visually identified and photographed, with images showing they had “bombs and guided munitions.” The Qatar defense launched an audio warning, but received no response from the fighters, who began flying at a higher altitude to evade radar control.
Determined to confront aircraft “classified as hostile,” Qatar scrambled its fighters and an F-15 engaged in an “air-to-air combat” and shot down the two Iranian fighter jets which crashed into Qatar’s territorial waters. The Foreign Ministry spokesperson on Tuesday specified that a search operation for the crews was underway. Since the Israeli-American attack on Iran began, Tehran has used hundreds of missiles and drones to attack US-allied countries in the region, but the mission to Qatar marked the first time it has used fighter jets to strike a country in the region.
Meanwhile, Qatar has announced the intention to evacuate residents living near the Washington embassy in Doha, after the Iranian retaliatory attacks against the Gulf country. “Competent authorities are evacuating residents living near the US embassy as a temporary precautionary measure,” the Qatar Ministry of Interior wrote on X. “Adequate accommodation has been provided to them as part of the necessary preventive measures,” it added. Previously, the ministry had urged citizens to “stay inside their homes and buildings” and to “avoid leaving if not necessary.”
