La notizia più temuta, ventilata la settimana scorsa dopo gli attacchi dei giorni scorsi a giacimenti e infrastrutture del Golfo, è arrivata nel pomeriggio di martedì. Qatar Energy, la compagnia petrolifera statale dell’emirato, ha dichiarato lo stato di forza maggiore anche sui contratti di lungo termine per la fornitura di gas naturale liquefatto sottoscritti con Italia, Belgio, Corea del Sud e Cina. Vale a dire che sospenderà o rinvierà le forniture. A inizio marzo il gruppo aveva già notificato a Edison, il maggior importatore italiano, che non avrebbe potuto adempiere agli obblighi contrattuali relativi alle consegne previste da inizio aprile. Ora ufficializza che lo stop sarà ben più prolungato
L’Italia è oggi il principale importatore europeo di Gnl qatariota, con circa 5 milioni di tonnellate nel 2025, davanti a Spagna, Belgio, Polonia e Regno Unito. L’anno scorso ha comprato dal Paese il 42% del suo fabbisogno di gas naturale liquefatto, pari al 10% del suo consumo complessivo di quel combustibile fossile. Che copre ad oggi circa il 35% del consumo interno lordo di energia.

Energy crisis, alarm for Italy: Qatar announces the halt to natural gas supplies as stipulated in long-term contracts.
The most feared news, rumored last week after the attacks in recent days on oilfields and infrastructure in the Gulf, arrived in the afternoon of Tuesday. Qatar Energy, the state oil company of the emirate, has declared a state of force majeure on long-term contracts for the supply of liquefied natural gas signed with Italy, Belgium, South Korea and China. This means it will suspend or postpone deliveries. At the beginning of March, the group had already notified Edison, Italy’s largest importer, that it could not fulfill contractual obligations relating to deliveries scheduled to begin in early April. Now it officially confirms that the halt will be much longer.
Italy is today the main European importer of Qatari LNG, with approximately 5 million tons in 2025, ahead of Spain, Belgium, Poland and the United Kingdom. Last year it bought 42% of its liquefied natural gas needs from the country, which was 10% of its total consumption of that fossil fuel. Which currently covers around 35% of gross inland energy consumption.
