In their first final of the season, the two Italian players (both ranked number 5 in the specialty ranking), the top seeded favorites, were defeated – as had already happened in the Indian Wells semi-final – by the number two pairing, consisting of Czech Katerina Siniakova and American Taylor Townsend (ranked number 2 and 7 in doubles) by a score of 7-6(0) 6-1.

Final strongly influenced by rain

The organizers were forced to suspend the match at 6-5 for Siniakova/Townsend and Errani at the service, 40-0, restarting it after almost three hours. For Siniakowa and Townsend it is a “Sunshine Double” having also won in Indian Wells.
