"Ci sono cose molto semplici e dirette - ha spiegato l'ambasciatore USA Mike Waltz, incontrando i giornalisti - cessare gli attacchi alle navi commerciali; smettere di posare mine e rimuoverle da una via d'acqua internazionale; interrompere l'imposizione di pedaggi illegali nello Stretto di Hormuz e permettere alle Nazioni Unite di far passare aiuti umanitari, aiuti salvavita, attraverso quel corridoio internazionale. È davvero così semplice".
"Il problema - ha aggiunto - è che proprio questa settimana i media statali iraniani hanno annunciato che il regime ha lanciato quella che chiama la 'Persian Gulf Straits Authority', con cui intende pretendere che tutte le navi - commerciali, civili, internazionali - debbano registrarsi e pagare una tangente, un pedaggio, per utilizzare queste vie d'acqua internazionali".
