š§ New paper by Chiu et al: #SST #interneurons do not only suppress #dendritic signaling. Via tonic activation of α5 #GABA receptors, they can paradoxically enhance AP-evoked dendritic #CalciumSignaling in #cortical #pyramidal #neurons.
Mechanistically, tonic #GABA hyperpolarizes #dendrites & deinactivates low-threshold voltage-gated #calcium channels, increasing calcium influx and facilitating calcium-dependent inhibitory #SynapticPlasticity.

New #Blog about #NixOS and #FlakeParts and honestly how good the #dendritic pattern is for Nix.
I recently pushed a new version of my nixos configuration to my Git Forgejo, and I want to talk about that. It all started when I saw someone talking about NixOS ReadMe flake-parts over on Reddit. Lost the post, unfortunately. They were talking about the benefits of the NixOS Git dendritic pattern.

For example, u might have to enable a service in both nixos option and home manager option for something. Like enabling KDE in nixos and then customising the options via home manager.
Usually one will write those in separate files. But in dendritic pattern u can actually make those in same file so that configs of same feature stays together to organise configs in better way.
I'm still figuring out too, so this is just my basic understanding so far š

I'm a noob in that area. But here's my understanding:
It's a way in which evrything is a flake_parts module. That's all. It's not even a new tool or framework. It's just a practice.
This way of structuring paves a lot of benefits when managing the systems.
The first steps would be to make everything as a flake_parts module and then start clubbing the configs based on feature.

Finally got nixos dendritic to work! so excited! May be working on a tutorial soon (if i dont forget lmao)
š§ New preprint by Lee et al.: Fast dendritic excitations primarily mediate #backpropagation in #CA1 pyramidal #neurons during #behavior
Using kHz #VoltageImaging across the full #dendritic tree, they show that fast dendritic spikes are usually driven by somatic #bAPs, not independently initiated. #bAP propagation into apical dendrites is contin. modulated by pre-spike dendritic voltage & can trigger slower plateau potentials linked to complex spikes.
š§ Pastorelli et al. (2025) present a "simplified two-compartment #neuron with #CalciumDynamics capturing #brain-state-specific apical-amplification, -isolation and -drive". This Ca-#AdEx model replicates distinct #dendritic mechanisms across wakefulness, #NREM & #REM sleep using a compact ThetaPlanes transfer function. Cool implementation using the #NESTsimulator š»!
