Das Fotografieren von Fahrrädern hat so seine Herausforderungen, finde ich. Zumindest in Kiel finden sich allerorts wunderschön komponierte Räder, voller Liebe, Alltagswert und Besonderheiten aus vielen Dienstjahren. Aber Fahrräder brauchen auch - finde ich - besonders ruhige und unaufgeregte Hintergründe. Der Anspruch geht bei mir so weit, dass ein paar Kritzeleien im Hintergrund vielleicht gerade noch so akzeptabel sein können, wenn dann aber noch Schatten vom Rahmen an der Wand hinzu kommen, wird es mir zu unruhig. Vielleicht sind Schatten an der Wand direkt hinter dem Fahrrad aber auch grundsätzlich störend.

Am besten stehen Fahrräder frei in einem aufgeräumten Hintergrund. Meine zweitliebste Wahl sind schlichte Wände ohne starkes Sonnenlicht.

Ich schaue mittlerweile zu erst auf den Hintergrund, dann auf das Fahrrad, wenn ich überlege, ob die Situation auch ein schönes Foto geben könnte. Oft freue ich mich dann einfach nur so über das Fahrrad und lasse die Kamera stecken.

Ein Grund übrigens warum ich wieder auf eine richtige Kamera gehen wollte, waren die Hintergründe und die Möglichkeit, mit der Tiefenschärfe für Ruhe im Hintergrund Sorgen zu können. Daran scheitert die Software meiner Smartphones.

In diesem Fall war die Unschärfe in der Tiefe nicht nötig. Hinter dem Fahrrad ist die Wand und die Tiefe quasi nicht existent. Aber nur quasi. In einem ersten Foto hatte ich Blende viel zu weit offen und wichtige Teile des Fahrrads waren auf Grund der Tiefen(un)schärfe unscharf. Also bin ich noch mal raus und hatte zum Glück eine zweite Chance.

Zum Fahrrad:

Johannes Adrianus „Jan“ Janssen ist der erste niederländische Sieger der Tour de France - die gewann er 1968.
1963 verpasste er den Start der 7. Etappe um 15 Minuten, holte das Feld bei etwa Kilometer 80 ein und gewann die Etappe mit einer Sekunde Vorsprung.

Später vertrieb er Fahrräder unter seinem Namen.

Since it was between 38-50 F today, I commuted via bike for the first time this year. I’ve been a bit wimpy but in my defense it’s been a very cold January recently. I’m on my usual commuter, a build I started in 2016 on a 1972 Peugeot UO-8. It was a pleasant but windy ride. Cheers! #vintagebikes #bikecommuter #bikephilly

New setup for a new adventure ⚒️

In the next 1 1/2 months I will cycle from Prague to Istanbul, passing through Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia, and Bulgaria 🚴🏼‍♀️

As I am cycling with a 50 year old road bike, things will probably not always work out as planned, but that’s part of the adventure I guess! For better food supply, rain clothes, a solar panel, and some other handy stuff I replaced my 11 liter Cyclite saddle bag with two 20 liter pannier bags by Ortlieb.

Due to the additional weight my handlebars got wobbly. I’ll try to fix this problem so I can trust my bike and enjoy cycling 161 %.

I tightened the headset, lowered the forkbags in front compared to the picture, tightened all screws of the rack, and rearranged the weight, which all helped a little bit. A local bicycle mechanic in Prague told me that a crack in the frame seems unlikely to him. At least there aren‘t any visible cracks. But there is some kind of creaking noise when I‘m cycling uphill or on gravel roads. Hopefully, I’m gonna figure out where it comes from in the next days. Fingers crossed!

Hey: trying out @Mastodon with the ulterior motive of sharing my ‘25 project of building a vintage MTB/gravel bike! I chose a yellow 1986 Cannondale MTB frame, top of their line that year. I’ve removed the old crankset and headset. Pictured is the first new component: a sweet purple EC30/EC30 from Phil Wood. I installed using a DIY bearing cup installer I found on RJ’s cycles, YouTube. It went and looks great. Next up: fork and stem. I hope to be riding it this summer. Here we go! #vintagebikes
