Mein erstes Custom-Bike-Projekt: Suzuki Savage 650 Retro Chopper
Einfach. Ehrlich. Zeitlos.

Ride safe!

When I first told people about my plan of going on a bikepacking trip from Prague to Istanbul with my 50 year old road bike, someone said it was like taking a 1970s Porsche and mounting a bicycle rack or a caravan to it—meaning that it was kind of absurd 🤷🏼

Well, I must admit that there‘s something to it.. My handlebars will always be wobbly with this amount of luggage. Sometimes, when cycling uphill, I dream of a Shimano 820 1-12 groupset. And when the wobbly handlebars get a bit too much out of control I look forward to riding a proper gravelbike one day.

However, I love my old french bike a lot 🖤 We have only been together for 1.5 years, and we had a very good time on several nice adventures in France, Italy, and Germany. In this small amount of time we both changed each other (yeah ok, it was mostly me exchanging parts of my bike, but I like the idea of our relationship not being onesided).

And now we‘re going from Germany to Turkey together. So far, we made it to Bulgaria. I mean, that‘s damn cool, right? 😎

Stay tuned, take it slow, and be part of team 161

Some statements on cycling

1. Cycling is a revolutionary movement
2. All roads belong to cyclists
3. All bodies, no matter their size or their form, have the right to cycle
4. Cycling doesn‘t have to be expensive: Take a bike and cycle
5. Repairing your bike yourself is empowering
6. Add a „Re“ to „Cycling“ as often as possible
7. Support+ cyclists who are not cis-men (with knowledge, tools, accommodation, food, water, empathy and empowering words)

Did I forget something? Add it to the comments below!👇🏼

Thx to @velo_peaches for checking up on my wobbly handlebars-issue 💟

First impressions of cycling through Europe

1. Me and my bike in the elevator, going to a bikeshop to check whether the frame has cracks,
2. tram in Prague,
3. 30 degrees, dead butterfly on the road, and
4. poster remembering the killing of antifascist activist Milada Horáková by the communist party in 1950.

New setup for a new adventure ⚒️

In the next 1 1/2 months I will cycle from Prague to Istanbul, passing through Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia, and Bulgaria 🚴🏼‍♀️

As I am cycling with a 50 year old road bike, things will probably not always work out as planned, but that’s part of the adventure I guess! For better food supply, rain clothes, a solar panel, and some other handy stuff I replaced my 11 liter Cyclite saddle bag with two 20 liter pannier bags by Ortlieb.

Due to the additional weight my handlebars got wobbly. I’ll try to fix this problem so I can trust my bike and enjoy cycling 161 %.

I tightened the headset, lowered the forkbags in front compared to the picture, tightened all screws of the rack, and rearranged the weight, which all helped a little bit. A local bicycle mechanic in Prague told me that a crack in the frame seems unlikely to him. At least there aren‘t any visible cracks. But there is some kind of creaking noise when I‘m cycling uphill or on gravel roads. Hopefully, I’m gonna figure out where it comes from in the next days. Fingers crossed!

If you have any hints on how to find the cause of my wobbly handlebars, pls dm me 📩

Stay tuned, take it slow & be part of team 161
