The Hagen Flagship is one of the very few steel frame cargo bikes on the market. And it looks astonishing and has quite some European background: the brand somehow started with ideas in London but was set up first in Odense, DK and later on in Denmarks capital Copenhagen. Eventually production was moved to Estonia.

After Hagen filed for insolvency in November 2023 the brand was bought and rescued by Springdrive, a Hungarian bike manufacturer.

I spotted this classic at the promenade - old fashioned looks, but actually a new(ish) bike made in Europe. Made in as in frames built in Europe, Belgium. Achille used to built bike frames for other companies and decided in 2007 to build and sell complete bikes too. The frames are made of steel so I would beleive the are built to last and deliver comfort.

So I thought "what a nice bike - perfect for a tweed run!" And they come rather cheap - if you don't go wild with all the extras. They offer many many colours, chain and mud guards may be painted in different colours. Even one of the baskets can be painted in frame colour. ...so with all the Extras you could triple the base price.

Those two I met while I was waiting in front of a shop. That evening we had the first snow of this winter. The owners saw me taking pictures of their bikes and approached me aftwerds. They were so in love with their young timer mountain bikes from Trek. The most beautiful christmas bicycle couple ever.

How to shoot when the object is in the dark and the background bright? I have no answer yet but find that situation quite often with bikes on the street.

New Lens

Or at least new to my Fuji digital camera. I have bought an adapter for Pentax K to Fuji X so that I could use the lenses from my 1980s Pentax ME Super on the Fujifilm.

That means manual focus is the only focus option. So rather than relying on the autofocus speed and precision I have to rely on my focus skills and they are limited since I have not touched my Pentax in years. What I have never tried with film was pre focusing of moving objects. The risk of burning money on film was too high I thought. With the Fuji however I never feel the need to practice since the camera and modern lenses focus well enough for all my needs. But does it? The autofocus does fail sometimes and by just following the object with an continous autofocus and serial exposures I produce a lot of data waste rather. So for now the old glas will be a pre focusing training tool that forces me to interpret and foresee situations, make my self aware of distances and the area that I can put in focus with the choosen aperture - and that is not wide open with narrow area of sharpness. So I use an aperture around f8 or higher and than it is more or less point and shoot.
