More generally: the #Trumpezoids (I do not assume that the critical decisions are made by Trump as an individual) seem to think they can wield American imperial power to accomplish frivolous goals, in ways that would have appalled #Polk or #Seward or #McKinley or #Kissinger — and that power will emerge from their misadventures undiminished.

@mossyrua That scenario is consistent with the general concept that the current performance of the #USA economy is much closer to its theoretical optimum potential than is the case for the economy of #Europe. The #USA currently benefits from an intricate network of alliances accumulated by decades or even centuries of astute empire building by people like #Seward, #McKinley, #Kissinger, etc. Trump is now squandering that. Meanwhile, #Europe hasn't even truly unified itself. It has a cornucopia of unrealized advantages to be gained — like an alliance with #China.
