You know, there really needs to be a group for people just starting to get into DazStudio and the like, where newbies can go and ask dumb questions. I have so many questions, and I can't seem to find the answers anywhere (my brother-in-law has done his darndest, but the things he and I do are so different, he isn't familiar with what I'm working with), and google isn't often as helpful as I'd like it to be. So I'm just kind of sat here like "Are my questions that stupid, or...?"

For example, here's my current situation:

This character is a vampire...I want this character to have pale skin...but I also want him to have freckles and eye shadow! WHERE DO I GO TO PURCHASE PALE SKIN?!?!?! Ugh! Okay, so I can use this thing to give him freckles...but like...does this eyeshadow work on him, or not? Now I have assets for G8...is G8.1 the same thing, and will this, specific thing I've just spent $40 on work on this G9 model I'd like to use too? Do I use this thing that's a shader to force the model to have pale skin? If so, will that effect other characters in the scene? Do I just purchase a whole separate model...for their skin?

I am now experiencing a crisis and feel like some sort of serial killer, lol. XD

Although I've been on here for a few months, I've been dipping in and out and still feel like a newbie so bear with me here...

1. I see a lot of people with hashtags in their bio. Does this actually make a difference to how discoverable your profile is?

2. Both the Mastodon clients I've tried out have a "trending" tab/section where you can see either trending posts or trending hashtags. With no algorithms going on here, what is considered trending content? How would the trending posts section differ from my federated timeline for example?

Is the word "dog" better than nothing to visually impaired persons?

I've seen many times where the only description is "dog"

I may be off base, but think it's pointless to even add it to a picture. Is it enough? Is it better than nothing?

I'm still learning, so I am definitely open to correction.

Question re #AltText and #VisuallyImpaired friends here on Mastadon: if someone posts media and writes out what the media shows in the toot, is that sufficient? The reader will cover the words in the toot, so should the author still add the alt text?
