I'm proud to announce the launch of Blind Productions.
Blind Productions is a showcase and community I built to celebrate blind creative professionals — musicians, DJs, actors, authors, podcasters, and content creators — and to give us one place to discover each other's work, collaborate, and connect.
Here's the honest part: this is the ground floor. The doors are open, the foundation is built, and now it's time to fill it up. I'm inviting you to help shape what this becomes — a living archive that future generations can search to discover the musicians and creators who came before them, and a moderated space where we create, support one another, and network as a community.
What's here today:
• A searchable directory of blind creatives, each profile with a bio, links to their work, audio to listen to, and video to watch.
• A moderated community forum for collaboration, support, opportunities, and networking.
• Accessibility built in from the ground up — screen-reader friendly, fully keyboard operable, with adjustable text, themes, and high contrast on every page.
So here's my ask: start submitting profile suggestions. Nominate yourself. Nominate the artists you admire. Bring the people who deserve to be found. Create a free account, join the conversation, and let's build something that lasts.

Das Ergebnis zum Thema Betriebssystem für blinde oder erblindende Menschen - Mehrfachnennungen waren möglich - ist ziemlich eindeutig, auch wenn nur wenige Betroffene (10) abstimmten.
Ich danke allen, die mitmachten. Es gibt mir Orientierung.

The results regarding operating systems for blind or visually impaired people—multiple answers were allowed—are quite clear, even though only a few people in this group (10) voted.
I would like to thank everyone who participated. It helps me get my bearings.

Welches Betriebssystem für Endgeräte ist für Blinde bzw. visuell eingeschränkte Personen das geeignete Betriebssystem? Oder ist es egal, welches Betriebssystem verwendet wird?
Ich bitte darum, dass nur Menschen abstimmen, welche selbst blind bzw. visuell eingeschränkt sind oder diese Menschen aktiv unterstützen.
Anforderung an das Betriebssystem: größtmögliche Eigenständigkeit für die Betroffenen.
Schreibt auch gern die Kommentare dazu.

The latest versions of @gnome (not from Debian Stable, as it will inevitably be years behind) are much better for accessibility for #visuallyimpaired users. I have a #blind buddy—who was very frustrated at how broken things were—and he's now very happy with #GNOME's progress lately, because it is now usable again for them on Wayland… it's reportedly 80-90% there, i.e. "good-enough" for them at least.

I think GNOME (and maybe KDE?) are your only options for #a11y at the moment.

So much on your Mac screen is never described. Videos with no audio description. Slides nobody reads aloud.

Perspective Describe uses on-device AI to describe it for you, and nothing leaves your machine. It is audio description for everyone, and I am using it this week to follow WWDC labs that are not accessible.

Update: See thread for origional topic. I have a lesson set up with a western flute instructor who, even though she doesn't have a lot of knowledge about the Bansuri, she's willing to do some research for me to help me confirm hand placement and flute angle. I have also, thanks to a friend of mine, connected with someone from India who is also #Blind and a self-taught #Musician who has given me permission to pick her brain when necessary. A lot of the rest will come with time. Thankfully, with there being so many videos out there and my ability to play by ear, I have plenty of options to learn new material. I'll be placing an order soon for a G bass from Labu Flutes and later switch to a larger flute, which I will happily pay the higher price at this point to get made custom. Anubodh, though expensive, has communicated with me in both a timely and informative fashion regarding what he can customize for me and what exactly each customization will do. Would I like to find a good teacher from which to learn? Absolutely. But at least I'm no longer feeling stuck and/or caged by a lack of options. The number of boosts I've received has been amazing.
