Still a long way to go.

I doubt #European companies are any different from #US ones wrt profiting. Only, the people in this continent, and the French in particular, have a proven record defending #democracy by all means, including guillotines.

I don't really know what I feel about this.

Years ago, when Apple planned to deploy NeuralHash for local device scanning, I objected strongly and it's what drove me to leave that ecosystem.

Now I'm no longer affected by big tech orgs scanning through my devices, it doesn't in principle offend me for a government to want to ban explicit material on children's phones.

I do like big tech being held to account though.

I'm cautiously optimistic about the european.social declaration. Yet I still have some doubts.

- VC-backed ownership support 🤨

- "ad-supported (including novel privacy-preserving advertising technology developed in Europe)" seems rather specific?🤔

- 3 founding signatories being US based while at the same time projecting a very EU vs 'foreign' narrative seems rather odd. It feels quite political while I've concerns about EU politics too.
