It took less than two years for a lot of good developers that could work with a laptop and a few containers or VMs without internet connection to turn into coding zombies that are addicted to centralised "AI" coding agents and getting the shakes when their connection to those services goes down. #SarcasmButOnlyHalf This is frightening to me. Now imagine what this addiction does to normal people that think that "AI" can actually help them in life.

Again, very short. But lots of fun. And who doesn't love an enormous transport meddling with whatever you're trying to do.

So apparently Netflix added most or all of the James Bond catalogue to the service a few weeks ago & now they're removing it again.

I'm not particularly beholden to 007 but it's a great example of how fucking exhausting this digital world is because of the constant twiddling going on behind the veil.

Every time you try using any digital product you may find it's different than last time.

It's like Theyโ„ข๏ธ want to take object permanence away from us.

Man, LLMs really drive home the lesson that people differ *greatly* in how much they care whether the statements they make are accurate.
Any one remember when #wsocial was going to "fix social media"? A lesson: don't announce a product if you don't have anything to show.

Hayo just finished reading All Systems Red by Martha Wells

I was sick and watched the series. I loved the main character. But as we all know, the book is always better. So I read the book. It is indeed much better. But desperately short. I love that the book is much more no-nonsense, doesn't feel the need to explain every single thing and goes forward in a much brisker pace than the series. So I will definitely read all the other parts as well.

The difference between the tech industry and, say, Enron is that the tech industry is a cluster of very large, deeply intertwined megacorporations. They're like the 2007 era banks in terms of their interconnectedness: big tech orbiting Nvidia and smaller startups orbiting the big tech planets.

You only need fraud to thrive in one corner of this system to create a cascading risk for them all.
