Keir Starmer anunciará su dimisión como primer ministro del Reino Unido este lunes, según varios medios

El laborista y hasta ahora alcalde de Manchester, Andy Burnham, es el favorito para suceder al actual primer ministro como líder del partido y del país

I’m seeing a lot of ‘Labour shouldn’t change leader, look at Starmer’s list of achievements’ and all I can think is, yeah there’s a lot of good there but nobody is feeling it. The problem is that Starmer doesn’t speak human - he’s a lawyer by profession and a managerial policy wonk politician. He’s basically a centre-left version of Theresa May. I don’t doubt he’s a good man, with strong principles, but I think his political instincts are either wrong or he lets himself be lead down policy paths contra to those instincts (which would explain all the u-turns). If Burnham can turn Labour into the Social Democratic party it purports to be (but isn’t as it spends too much time triangulating and trying to appease media oligarchs) then maybe, just maybe, he can turn things around. Getting shot of FPTP and accepting that coalition government is the future would be a good first step… #ukpol

It looks like it was the other side of the city and after the main Pride events, but still...

Starmer and Mahmood made (bland) comments last night on X - "The suspect appears to be motivated by anti-Muslim hatred. I will not tolerate this – he will face the full force of the law."

And Burnham? The heir-apparent? Does he want to show how he'd handle far right violence differently to Starmer. Well... Silence so far...

I understand that yesterday was Edinburgh Pride and I hope that everyone who was there for that (I mean, any reason really) is OK following the Islamophobic far-right knife attacks. We need solidarity now more than ever.

Someone has been arrested and charged - a white man who the police took down without tasering and kicking in the head when he was on the floor - enabling him to shout far right replacement theory bullshit...

So if Keir is considering calling it a premiership on Monday this would leave the late and exceptional Anthony Head to still be the longest running prime minister of the UK since Cameron.

Hope Keir didn't quit his day job for this.

Talk of Starmer staying on to fight is fading fast

After Andy Burnham’s by-election victory, support for the prime minister is evaporating, writes Laura Kuenssberg.

Tragic news in #TheObserver: Keir #Starmer to resign on Monday as leader of the UK's so-called "#LabourParty".

This deprives the world of a re-run of #BorisJohnson's demise. No stream of ministers resigning every hour. No unknown MPs promoted to Cabinet. No wave of Hitler Bunker memes. No breathless polcors.

Instead, the tedium of orderly succession, probably without contest. A great, historic #popcorn moment squandered by a grey man with no sense of comedy. 😡
