What’s going on? MPs will vote on amendments to the Cyber Security and Resilience Bill next Tuesday 16 June. Victoria Collins MP, has tabled amendment NC13, that would require the Government to publish a Digital Sovereignty Strategy. This is urgently needed to reduce the UK’s dependence on a small number of foreign-owned technology companies for critical public services and infrastructure. The UK government relies on risky and costly big foreign companies to provide it’s digital infrastructure. These companies lock us in their expensive services.
Public money should be spent on public code that benefits us all.
We call for Digital Sovereignty with open source tech, so we can switch providers without changing systems.
End the #BigTechRipOff that keeps us dependent and out of pocket.

What's with this "only EU software to establish EU tech sovereignty" argument?
If the #EU country where a software was developed pulls a "Brexit"-like stunt, will you stop using that software?
Conversely, if a useful software (licensed and compliant with AGPLv3) was made in a non-EU country; say India or Kenya, will you still reject it?
#techsovereignty can only be achieved by developing, promoting, (and sometimes mandating) #freesoftware , and enforcing its license.
The UK's digital infrastructure is a strategic asset.
But being dependent on US tech firms is a critical weakness.
Our systems can be hit with sanctions, our economy is damaged and our tech policy curbed.
