"As a heated debate plays out in the #Jewish community over the effectiveness of throwing millions of dollars at the problem of #antisemitism, the #AmericanJewishCommittee’s annual ‘State of Antisemitism” #survey, released this morning, adds some ominous, though perhaps not surprising, data points to the discussion.

Thirty-one percent of #Jews reported being the target of an #antisemitic incident. Two-thirds of Jews felt that they were less secure in #America than last year. And 93% of Jews felt antisemitism was a problem in America, compared to 70% of the general public.

“We want leaders across our society to understand that while these appear as data points on a screen or on a piece of paper, every one of them represents the lived experience of Jews and Jewish families in America right now,” #TedDeutch, the CEO of #AJC who formerly represented a heavily Jewish South Florida District in the House, told #eJewishPhilanthropy."

"Rabbeinu Gershom was born in #Metz, northeast #France, in 960. If he were transported to Metz 500 years later, little would likely have changed. Metz in 1460 would be pretty much the same. Same language, similar culture, same persecution, and #Jewish life there would be, for the most part, the same.

In contrast, consider a member of the #ModernOrthodox community in the US in the 1950s. If transported to the 1970s, such a person would have had difficulty recognizing their #religious community because of significant changes in religious practices, communal priorities, and identity.

This dramatic transformation is the #story that Dr. Lawrence Grossman (former director of publications at the #AmericanJewishCommittee and #editor of the #American #Jewish Year #Book) brilliantly details in Living in Both Worlds: Modern Orthodox #Judaism in the #UnitedStates, 1945–2025 (Academic Studies Press)."

"#AmericanJewishCommittee (#AJC) welcomed a federal court ruling today ensuring that #AB715, #California’s newly enacted law protecting #publicschool #students from bias and discrimination in the #classroom, will go into effect on Jan. 1.

Denying a challenge that sought to block the law, #US #DistrictCourt Judge Noël Wise, said the state had the right to regulate what is taught in public-#school #classrooms and when.

“As public-school #education belongs to the government, the government may regulate [#teachers’] speech to accord with the government’s #educational goals. It is of no significance that the curricula and the attendant speech required to teach it may advance a single viewpoint to the exclusion of another.”

The #Court’s ruling upheld that AB 715—which bars teachers from injecting personal beliefs and bias into instruction and provides added protections for all students, including Jewish students—is #constitutional..." 😬

What does she mean by the word "universal" because no definition I am familiar with fits this sentence?

"Replacing the memory of the Holocaust with that of other struggles — even legitimate ones — poses a grave threat and betrays the spirit of "Never again", which was meant as a universal call for vigilance, not as a pretext for contemporary hostility toward Jews." https://www.ajc.org/news/the-gaza-auschwitz-comparison-a-moral-failure published by the #AmericanJewishCommittee (never heard of them before) author Simone Rodan-Benzaquen oversees AJC’s offices in #Berlin

I can't even work out how this fits with any known definition of "again" or "vigilance"? If the Holocaust was such a unique historical event that resembles nothing in the present day … you've already defined away the possibility of "again", that is not vigilance, that's total negligence.

#NeverAgain means never again TO anyone and never again BY anyone.

#MashaGessen says most of my points better than I could.

The Gaza-Auschwitz Comparison: A Moral Failure

Replacing the memory of the Holocaust with that of other struggles—even legitimate ones—poses a grave threat and betrays the spirit of "Never again," which was meant as a universal call for vigilance, not as a pretext for contemporary hostility toward Jews.
