小学校でも「算数」を「数学」に

小学校のときは「算数」だったものが、中学に上がると「数学」になるというのは、私も子供心に期待と不安を感じたものです。この教科名の違いをなくして、小学校でも「数学」にしようという議論が、学習指導要領の改定に向けて進められているそうです。

時事通信の記事には諸外国での小中学校での科目名が並べられていますが、ここに挙げられている中国、韓国、アメリカ、イギリス、フランス、ドイツでは小中学校で同じ科目名が用いられているとのことです。国によって教えられる範囲が異なるので、単純な比較はできないと思いますが、少なくとも数学に類するものについて他の呼び方をすることはない、というようなことは言えるのかもしれません。ただ、韓国でも以前は小学校では「算数」と呼ばれていたそうですが、2000年の教育課程の改定で「数学」に統一されたとのことです。

統一することに反対する意見もあるそうですが、算数の延長線上に数学があることは疑いようのないことなのですから、わざわざ区別する必要はないように思います。ただ、小学生に「数学」という「学問」を意識させる名称はちょっと重たいような気がしないでもありません。「すうがく」とひらがなで書いてしまえばそうでもないかもしれませんが、かといって「数学」のほうを別の名前にするのも無理がある話ですね。

算数のままにすべきという意見では理由として「日本独自の授業・文化として定着している」という人がいるそうです。「算数」が日本独自の文化として定着している、というのは分かりますが、だからといって数学と区別する理由になるのかはよく分かりません。まあ、名称を統一するというのはいかにも合理的ではありますが。

Nach über 40 Jahren ist es soweit: ich gehe demnächst in den Ruhestand. Aber die Arbeit des Ökumenischen Eine-Welt-Kreises für unser Bildungsprojekt in Ruanda geht weiter!
Ich werde dem Eine-Welt-Kreis weiterhin angehören und die Leitung des Projekts fortführen.
Gleichwohl ist diese Zäsur Gelegenheit gewesen, zurück und auch nach vorn zu schauen. Dazu hatte ich Gelegenheit, im Radio ein längeres Interview (Das Ruanda-Projekt, Autor: Djuana Mannel) zu geben und ich lade Sie ein, dieses mit Hilfe dieses Links anzuhören. Die musikalischen Einlagen wurden in diesem Podcast entfernt.
