A federal jury in Charlotte, North Carolina found rides‑hailing company Uber liable for a driver who grabbed a passenger’s inner thigh as she was exiting the vehicle, awarding the plaintiff $5,000 in damages. The case, part of a series of sexual‑assault lawsuits against Uber, follows a February Arizona verdict that ordered the company to pay $8.5 million for a rape claim and a previous California trial that found Uber not liable. The judge ruled Uber qualifies as a “common carrier” under state law, making it responsible for the driver’s conduct, while Uber’s statement called the award modest, argued the jury was mis‑instructed on liability, and indicated it will appeal. The decision is seen as a potential boost for other plaintiffs in ongoing litigation over Uber’s safety record and its classification of drivers as independent contractors rather than employees.

Fines totalling €434,000 were imposed on 18 motorists who failed to pay M50 tolls, with 16 receiving the maximum €25,000 penalty after not appearing in Dublin District Court. Among them, Reece Quinn faced fines for 1,087 unpaid trips, and a commercial vehicle owner was fined for 79 missed journeys, while the sole defendant who attended—a 65‑year‑old grandmother—had paid for 281 of 460 trips and received a reduced sanction due to personal circumstances. Judge Anthony Halpin used the case to stress the importance of Ireland’s road infrastructure, noting that non‑paying drivers expect others to cover their tolls, and ordered additional €350 costs for the absent defendants. The court highlighted the toll system’s enforcement process, including escalating surcharges after 56 days and the possibility of fines up to €5,000 per charge, emphasizing that habitual non‑paying is prosecuted to protect the country’s busiest motorway.

yahoo news | ...Fraud Class Action Result of Undisclosed Relationship with Jeffrey Epstein...

Kahn Swick & Foti, LLC (KSF) reminds investors who suffered substantial losses that they have until **May 1, 2026** to file lead‑plaintiff applications in a securities‑class‑action lawsuit against **Apollo Global Management, Inc.**. The action covers anyone who purchased or otherwise acquired Apollo’s securities between **May 10, 2021 and February 21, 2026** (the “Class Period”). The suit is pending in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York (Case No. 26‑cv‑01692).

The complaint alleges that Apollo and certain executives failed to disclose material information, violating federal securities laws. Specifically, the lawsuit claims that leaders such as Marc Rowan and Leon Black communicated with **Jeffrey Epstein** during the 2010s, contradicting Apollo’s public assertion that it had never done business with Epstein. The plaintiffs contend that this undisclosed relationship damaged Apollo’s reputation and that the company’s statements about its business, operations, and prospects were materially false, misleading, or lacked a reasonable basis throughout the Class Period.

KSF, whose partners include former Louisiana Attorney General Charles C. Foti Jr., is a nationally‑ranked boutique securities‑litigation firm. Investors who purchased Apollo securities can contact KSF Managing Partner **Lewis Kahn** toll‑free at 1‑877‑515‑1850 or via email [email protected] for a free consultation and to learn how to pursue recovery. Trump turns on his own judicial appointee, who blocked his Oregon troop deployment — twice

President Donald Trump has a history of attacking judges who rule against him, labeling them “radical lunatics” or some other disparagement and calling for their impeachment. But he doesn’t usually go after judges he appointed.

That changed this weekend.

U.S. District Judge Karin Immergut, named to the court in Portland, Ore., by Trump in 2019, heard the challenge to his deployment of Oregon’s National Guard troops to Portland only because Trump’s administration objected to the initial assignment of a judge appointed by President Barack Obama.

Nevertheless, she ruled Friday that the Trump administration had failed to present evidence of severe dangers or a rebellion against the government that would justify a federal takeover of the state’s National Guard troops.

And when Trump responded by ordering redeployment to Portland of 300 California National Guard troops, whom he had dispatched to quell immigration protests in Los Angeles, Immergut said the administration was either ignoring or defying her previous order, and barred the president from sending the National Guard from any state to Oregon’s largest city.

The judge is a Republican with a background that would appear ideal for a Republican presidential appointee — she was a longtime state and federal prosecutor, was appointed U.S. attorney in Portland by President George W. Bush and was an aide to Kenneth Starr in the investigation that led to the impeachment of President Bill Clinton.

That didn’t stop Trump from assailing her. He didn’t call Immergut a radical leftist, but appeared to say — and show — that he didn’t know much about her.

“I wasn’t served well by the people that pick judges, I can tell you,” Trump said Sunday outside the White House. “I appointed the judge and he goes like that, so I wasn’t served well. Obviously, I don’t know the judge,” who “ought to be ashamed of himself,” Trump added, displaying his lack of knowledge by misgendering her. He later said the judge should be “ashamed of herself,” and that Portland was “burning to the ground,” contrary to evidence presented by the state and endorsed by Immergut.

Trump’s national security adviser, Stephen Miller, described Immergut’s rulings as a “legal insurrection” — apparently viewing any decision against Trump’s military deployments as an attempt to overthrow his government.

During his first term, Trump referred to a judge who had ruled against his ban on Muslims entering the United States as a “so-called judge.”
