Disabled and living a cozy life from bed.
My current proudest achievement is having cards at three libraries. I love houseplants, bird cams, video games, science, science fiction, and being in disability community. Let's be buds!

A piece of splatoon art that I made of octoling versions of twitch streamer Masuoh, my ‘sona Rory, and my friend @spark ‘s squidkid last week. I’ve been feeling more under-the-weather for a few days now, but my streak of better cognitive function still appears to continuing. This art piece took me nearly a week, and it was a slog, because I’m just not used to working on more complex images or spending so many consecutive days working anymore.

One of my goals this year is to read more nonfiction so I've made a nonfiction reading challenge called Worldbuilder's Book Club for any writers looking to read some nonfiction to deepen worldbuilding or generate story ideas, I made this graphic (with alt text) listing the twelve categories and it's also available as a challenge you can sign up for on The StoryGraph!

Words matter. Ableist language is not tolerated on #DisabledSocial This includes the R word. I am surprised this has to be said explicitly, but it does. Posts will be deleted and users warned. Multiple warnings and your account will be suspended.

I would STRONGLY encourage people to avoid terms like "crazy" or "mental." I know it's a big shift, given how common they are, but the HUGE stigma attached to mental health is a barrier to many people seeking treatment.

We all can and must do better.

Psst: most libraries offer e-books for checkout. Downloadable or streaming audiobooks, too. Pass it on.

Last year I read my first book in French, a short story collection for beginner learners, and I'm still tickled just thinking about it. I understood over 200 pages of French! I have lived in a very monolingual bubble and am still easily amazed by this. I have small daily, weekly, and quarterly goals to keep my learning moving, but they're all in service of the dream: read a native French book for adults this year. I can't imagine how delighted I'll be to do that. #LangToot #LanguageLearning

Each new year, I see posts on working harder, being tougher, going further.

As a disabled person, I realize this hustle culture leaves no room to be gentle with ourselves.

Lots of people set SMART goals. I came up with FUN (flexible, uplifting, numberless) goals. If I change my mind, it's okay. If it doesn't feel right or bring me joy, I can stop. If I miss a day, there's always tomorrow.

Grateful to the Washington Post for sharing my FUN goals approach in this piece. https://wapo.st/3Q6cB3b

What disabled people know about making better New Year’s resolutions

Many disabled people say their experience of coming to terms with their disability fundamentally shifted the way they approached goal-setting.

The Washington Post
I just finished An Immense World: How Animal Senses Reveal the Hidden Realms Around Us by Ed Yong, and it was as good as I hoped! Have you, like me, ever wanted to eat an episode of Planet Earth? Well, this book is delicious. It delighted my imagination to try to conceive of so many animals' unique ways of perceiving the world. I was touched by the earnest closing: light and noise pollution are about the only kind of pollution we could simply turn off, today. Ed Yong is a gem.

The difference in cognitive function on a good day versus and REALLY good day and how it impacts my art when drawing a character based on the same concept. #pwME
