Disabled and living a cozy life from bed.
My current proudest achievement is having cards at three libraries. I love houseplants, bird cams, video games, science, science fiction, and being in disability community. Let's be buds!

It just occurred to me to check out the #Duolingo tag! Look at y'all! While it's no longer my main method of study, I keep Duolingo around to help reinforce my habit of learning French daily. I still find it fun and have even adapted to the wacky new layout. The Duolingo iPhone widget is especially my friend when it comes to consistency.

If you're looking for buddies to help keep you motivated, especially if you're also learning French, feel free to add me! My username is gavinner over there.

Other criticisms/notes:

• My app crashes regularly, but fortunately never during a session.

• Their advertising implies that not using medication is inherently better than using it. Thankfully I don't believe I've encountered that within the program itself.

• I do think I hear a CBT influence in the voiceovers (which can be turned off), but nothing so far has felt inappropriate or invalidating to me. Likely has a mix of influences, as there are loving-kindness and gratitude-themed worlds.

More I like:

• The "worlds". My favorites so far are the beach sunset with pink dolphins and a snowy scene where your breathing lights candles on pine trees. I'm not sure they're contributing much to my relaxation beyond the breathing, but they may be helpful in acute pain or anxiety.

• Even if my mind is elsewhere, as long as my eyes and breathing follow the guide, my body relaxes. I do not have to maintain focus for the whole session. Helpful for those who struggle with breath meditation?

Flowly can be used without the gear by holding your finger over your phone's camera. I understand this to be less accurate. It's physically inaccessible to me.

After 6 weeks of trying the gear, I no longer use the headset, and the heart rate monitor continues to be a literal pain. I must lie down, and the weight of the headset and adjusting the VR horizon were causing problems, not relieving them. The HR monitor doesn't read my earlobes and must be clamped on my pinky, which hurts! 😖 And yet,

The newest leaf on this scindapsus pictus cutting shows its sparkle so well that I could catch it in a phone snap! My understanding is that this type of variegation is caused by air bubbles within the layers of the leaves, and I love it.

My sibling and I grew up playing Pokemon together and were best buds, but we're not as close as adults as I hoped we'd be. Unfortunately, I feel like my accessibility needs have been a factor.

But something special: he surprised me with a copy of the new #Pokemon game, and we just tried it out. It was meaningful to participate remotely but fully in something he adores! We died laughing over a buck-toothed turtle Pokemon named Chewtle. Hoping for a grand adventure together.
