#SFGiants #MLB

As predicted, Kyle Harrison will start tomorrow in the 2nd game vs the #Nationals taking Verlander's spot in the rotation after he was placed on the 15 day IR list.

The Giants called up Tristan Beck from AAA Sac to take Harrison's place in the bullpen.

Beck has been called up to The Show before & has been tested but I think they should have given the Whisenhut, their AAA hot prospect, at shot.

It would only be for a few innings and most over the next 2 wks, assuming Verlander comes back by then, & it would give them a chance to see how he throws vs 1st string hitters. A missed opportunity IMO.

Oh well . . . 🤷‍♂️

Tomorrow's game starts at 1pm Pacific time.

Go Giants!!! 🥳🥳🥳

Just received notice that Coral #Cherries are ready to pick in Brentwood beginning this coming Sat 5/17.

I assume other growers will be open for u-pick-it as well.

People all around the #SFBA drive to Brentwood to pick cherries during the #MemorialDay weekend which causes traffic jams in all directions.

So, if you're interested, this is your chance to get some early!

#Movies #Film

Just saw the movie #Sinners at my local #AMC.

It is a very peculiar movie with some very entertaining music & dancing scenes, which were the best part of the movie for me.

The #Chinese husband & wife grocery store owners also were of particular interest to me because it was a nod to a rare bit of #ChineseAmerican history.

The Chinese began immigrating to #Mississippi during reconstruction following the #CivilWar in the1860-70's. They bridged the gap between the #Black & #White communities by being grocery store owners who served both. I have book on the topic entitled #TheMississippiChinese (1971) & there is an end credit to a Mississippi Chinese cultural organization.

Speaking of which, if you leave or stop watching the movie before the credits completely end you will miss 2 special scenes.

I'd give it a 7 out of 10 for entertainment value & I'll probably buy a copy of the #DVD if/when it's released.

#movies

Just watched an old #MarkWahlberg & #JohnMaklovic movie called #Mile22 (2018) on #PrimeVideo that I hadn't seen before.

It seems like a simple #Gaunlet style flick but it's more than that & it has taken me a couple of viewings to "get it."

It's also a revenge movie on 2 different levels.

Wahlberg plays a really an extremely intelligent but likewise extremeley annoying, hostile, confrontational & pedantic CIA agent, contrary to the more subdued but still intelligent type that he normally plays.

Like the movie generally but there are still a lot of plot gaps & questions but, if you aren't bothered by that, you should enjoy the movie if you like a lot of shoot outs.

Unlike #Warfare (2025) that I just saw at my local #AMC, virtually everyone dies. 🤷‍♂️

I'd give this a 6 out of 10 but won't be buying the DVD.

#Movies

Just saw #Warfare (2025) as the 2nd of 2 movies that I watched today.

The movie is supposed to replicate an actual engagement by a Navy Seal Team in Iraq in real time, based on the memory of the members of the team, who were sequestered in a house that they usurped for whatever their mission was.

They drew heavy fire & casualties (mainly caused by an IED) during the incident & it seemed very realistic but what bugged me was the extreme amount of ammo that was expended on both sides with only a couple of targets apparently hit. It also bugged me that they did not appear to collect the remains of the 1 soldier blown in 1/2 in the explosion.

Felt sorry for the families who lived in the house (who survived the fire fight) but whose house was left in shambles after the soldiers left.

A very gritty movie which gives about as good an idea of what it's like to be in such circumstances w/o actually being there yourself.

I'll give it an 8 out of 10 & will buy the DVD if/when it's released.

Oo-rah!!!

#Movies

Just saw #Accountant2 at my local #AMC.

Pretty good. I'd give it a 7 out of 10. Better than the 1st by a hair IMO.

Thought the Accountant & his brother carried the movie fairly equally with the Accountant, of course, slightly in the lead. Justine plays a bigger & more visible role in providing intelligence & logistics Medina kinda gets in the way but was a necessary character.

But still wondering what happened to the mom & the other kids in the end but will buy the DVD if/when it's released.

#Warfare coming up . . .

#Movies

Re-watched the #movie #Warrior (2011) yesterday.

#TomHardy co-stars in the movie with the lesser know actor with a familiar face #JoelEdgerton as 2 brothers who end up facing off in a $5M winner take all #MMA competition.

#NickNolte appears in a supporting role as the father of the 2 brothers.

As in most of his early roles, Hardy plays a ferociously hard assed character which he executes beautifully. Edgerton plays the brother with a heart of gold who is forced to participate in the competition because he's broke & at risk of losing his house.

Of course, the MMA action is all orchestrated but it's still great just the same. I'm not a big MMA fan because a lot of the "action" just ends up w/the fighters grabbling on the ground.

There's a lot of this in the movie too but there are also some great knock outs & sophisticated wrestling moves featured.

Highly recommended to any boxing, martial arts or MMA fans. It gets a 7 out of 10 from me on that basis.

#Movies

Just watched #BloodDiamond again which is a highly under-rated & seldom mentioned movie.

#LeonardoDiCaprio gives one of his best performances on screen in this film, right up there with his performance in #Revenant.

#DjimonHounsou gives an equally powerful performance, right up there with his performance in #Amistad.

#JenniferConnelly also performs well in a supporting role, as she does in so many other movies.

If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend that you watch it &, if you haven't seen it in awhile, I highly recommend that you watch it again.

An 8 out of 10 for me!

#Movies

For the lack of anything else I care to look for, I'm watching #SpaceCowboys for the 3rd time this morning, which is the upteenth time that I've watched this movie, which is one of my favorite #ClintEastwood movies because it deals with the subject of #Ageism & defeats the idea that you're "washed up" just because you've reached #RetirementAge.

I also like this movie because Clint's character is challenged 3x's in the script for NOT being a #TeamPlayer &, not EVER being a team player myself, it's gratifying to see how the team player can succeed where mind-melded team players fail.

Next to #FireFox, Space Cowboys is one of my favorite Clint Eastwood movies . . . both are highly recommended by me.
