I just saw the Wedding Banquet at my local #AMC & this article helps to better inform #KellyMarieTran's performance in it.

However, I don't agree with the author of the article that this film was a remake of the original.

It's an entirely different movie which is only loosely based on the original and should stand in it's own right as a #queer #AsianAmerican #film that serves as a counter point to #JoyRide (2023), which was a mainly #straight Asian American film which also had a uniquely open (for an Asian American film) #sexual perspective.

I just watched the newly released #TheWeddingBanquet (2025) at my local #AMC.

This #movie is NOT a sequel NOR a remake of the original #film of the same name -- #TheWeddingBanquet (1993) which was produced & directed by #AngLee.

It is an entirely different movie based on an entirely different plot which is only very loosely based on the original.

Without giving away too much, I'd characterize the new movie as a #gay
#Asian version of #ModernFamily (which only had 1 gay white couple among many other characters in it) which demonstrates all the same conflicts & insecurities & problems that all couples go thru, whether they are gay, straight or whatever.

Life is complicated & it is no less complicated (& perhaps even more complicated) for gay folks.

I liked it and would give it a 7 out of 10 which is same that I'd give for the original. I already have a copy of the original on #DVD in my collection & will buy a DVD of the new movie if & when it's ever released.

Saw #TheAmateur at my local #AMC yesterday &, while I'm not a fan of #RamiMalek as an actor & while #LawerenceFishburne just called in his performance, I liked it.

Of course, there were a lot of plot gaps & discontinuities but it was entertaining and provided a ending that was surprising to me.

I'd give it a 6 out of 10 & plan to buy the #DVD whenever it's released.
