@inawhilecrocodile Good to know, thank you. I’ve had a pretty stable experience with it for the time I’ve used it, but that’s not to say I won’t ever experience issues. Thankfully I added a little installer script to my old dotfiles, so in the worst case I can get up and running with those again in a few minutes.

About a month ago I switched away from using my own dotfiles for #niri in lieu of #dankmaterialshell. It might stem from me wanting to just use my machine instead of having to maintain my machine, but it’s been a very nice experience. The devs are working hard adding a ton of features to make a nice desktop environment, and there’s already a pretty in depth plugin ecosystem for adding more specific features. I’ve been enjoying it!

This mastodon client came to me in a fever dream.
I had to waste the whole day, but now you too can bunnyhop through your fedi feed.

* webgl required
* mobile somewhat supported
* yes this html file is a whole client and the entire source
* it would run smoother and look better if you launch it locally so it don't have to bypass CORS, but oauth won't work and you'll have to use access token
* you can click urls and images
* you don't really have to login, and can just hop around the public timelines (i.e. Instance = https://mastodon.social , empty token, Federated timeline, Use Access Token)
* but I'm too tired to support CW and sensitive, so it'll kinda be full of porn
* admins will hate you
* 429 error means you won
* I am in dire need of salvation

@anthropy Interesting! That’s good to know, thank you. I’ll definitely have to try grub mode next time I’m having trouble.

I’m also wondering if I had issues because that Ventoy install had been sitting around for probably a year or two, and might have needed updates for better compatibility with newer distros

@anthropy Ventoy is great! I’ve also used it before to set up a small collection of utilities, like gparted, and the live images for the distro I’m using in case I’ve messed something up to the point where safe mode is also broken lol

I will add that I’ve experienced a few distros not able to boot from Ventoy, for whatever reason. I recently encountered this with Bazzite and was forced to manually write the image to my USB stick to get it to work.

With so many folks exploring Linux (hi #Windows10 peoples<3) or just #DistroHopping, I have to share a massive quality-of-life tool: Ventoy.

It's an opensource tool that sets up your USB stick once. After that, you just drag-and-drop multiple ISO files (Linux, Windows, BSD, etc.) onto it like a normal drive.

When you boot from the USB, Ventoy gives you a menu to pick which ISO you want to run.

No more re-flashing your drive every single time!

Ventoy

Ventoy is an open source tool to create bootable USB drive for ISO files. With ventoy, you don't need to format the disk again and again, you just need to copy the iso file to the USB drive and boot it.

I don’t think we’re gonna make it fam.

Best 25$ ever spent.

Using some old HDDs, now I have pretty much unlimited backup storage for my pictures and videos.

If you didn't know about Immich, now is the time to make the switch.

On vacation which means this is probably a good time to install Linux, since Windows 10 is meeting its maker and I do not wish to use 11.

I used Arch like, 10 years ago? My knowledge is out of date, though. Which distro are all the sickos using these days? #linux #arch

What's a good (open source, self-hosted) platform for managing centralised authentication for a collection of servers?

Got a mix of Alpine, Ubuntu, FreeNAS, and Proxmox servers and I want to set up a central platform for user accounts.
