I use it as a Google Photo alternative, it’s great.
#Immich works really well as a personal image database, and I'm impressed by what it can do. I will use it for my personal image organisation in the future, but the fact that I can't share galleries with multiple albums with my club, family, etc. limits its use considerably. Incidentally, the Nextcloud ‘Photos’ app has the same problem.

#Immich randomly needs to reupload everything AGAIN. No update of anything, everything is already uploaded, but it just decides to forget the sync status of 65k assets.
Giving up on this. It's actually LESS stable and more buggy after they hit the "stable" release.
Translated the official docker-compose file into multiple quadlet definitions for:
- immich-server (App-Container)
- immich-db (postgresql db)
- immich-redis (valkey db)
- immich-ml (ML stuff)
Created an env-file to pull the settings from (as in the docker-compose .env one).
Important: I had to specify additional environment vars for DB_HOSTNAME and REDIS_HOSTNAME because my containers weren't called "redis" and "database".
My server runs CentOS Stream 9 and I've added the :Z option to the volumes and hostpaths to autolabel directories as containerfile_t so SELinux is happy.
The complete list of environment vars for immich is useful:
https://docs.immich.app/install/environment-variables
Todo (later): Start the ML container with hardware acceleration
Immich (selfhosted alternative to Google Photos) released stable version 2.0.0
The disclaimer from the immich website is gone:
"Warning: Immich is under heavy development and features might break between versions anytime"
...or something like this.
From now on they'll use semantic versioning (potential breaking changes only with major versions).
That warning held me off from trying it out when I saw it years ago.
Time to evaluate it again I guess 😊
I'll write a podman quadlet for my homelab server.
#immich #homelab #selfhost #podman #docker #bigtech #foss #opensource
Best 25$ ever spent.
Using some old HDDs, now I have pretty much unlimited backup storage for my pictures and videos.
If you didn't know about Immich, now is the time to make the switch.
