After learning from the nerd discussion on Mastodon that Microsoft is going to start spying on Windows gamers in order to train #Copilot, I decided that was the final straw. I downloaded the #Bazzite ISO, formatted my SSD, and installed it over the weekend. No dual booting for me! And it's been great! The #linuxgaming experience has come a long way since I last tinkered with Linux about 10 years ago, in no small part thanks to #Steam and Proton. Some minor tinkering/troubleshooting was involved but no more than you often have to do in Windows.
Shout out to @gamingonlinux for helpful guides and tips! But Bazzite has been a genuinely great experience, and generally seems to run faster/smoother than Windows.
Nice to see Bazzite getting more and more popular. It feels like it's becoming *the* distro to recommend to "power-user" type folk interested in switching from Windows, especially gamers.
Fedora Silverblue has worked for me for a long time, but it's very tempting to rebase to Bazzite to see if there's anything I can do to contribute to development and keep that momentum going.
So, anyway... I tried to do distro hopping like I used to a couple of years ago, but I just can't move on from #Bazzite
It's a console-grade experience in the sense that if you need something to just install and forget about the pain setting #Windows up caused you, it's really therapeutic.
I don't take my time now, because I'm forced to, I do it, because I *love* setting up Linux. FlatHub helps, not gonna lie.
I just wish downloading themes wasn't broken in the #KDE #Plasma settings.
I’m enjoying using #bazzite, but some choices strike me as odd. For instance, I chose the KDE variant, but it still uses Gnome’s Terminal instead of Konsole. Why?
That being said, they did a good job of integrating KDE and GTK applications. They look very similar and I guess if you aren’t used to Linux you wouldn’t even notice it.
Had a bit of trouble and lacked clear instructions on how to install ZeroTier on bazzite so wrote this guide
https://frans.today/zerotier-bazzite/
Documentation also lacked info on SSO via zerotier-cli so you can find that at the bottom.
