Similarly, someone discussing ideas in a given register doesn't mean that they're elitist.

People can & do operate in different registers / languages / codes. It's one of our many inalienable human rights.

400 photo engravers employed by New York City newspapers go on strike over wages and improved working conditions. 20,000 other newspaper workers represented by other unions refused to cross the photo engravers’ picket lines. The strike ended eleven days later with the workers receiving a $3/week wage increase.

So, a suggestion for birdsite expatriates who were/are heavy into USA political topics. It might be a good plan to tag your posts #USPol, NOT just #politics. Unless I've missed something, we're still in the minority here, and most of us are on non-USA-based servers. Some folks want their filters to work without dropping other discussions of interest.
