An Apple (II) for Teacher

By early 1980, the Apple II, which had trailed the Commodore PET and Tandy/Radio Shack TRS-80 at first, had become a remarkable success, with a great deal of help from Personal Software’s VisiCalc.…

Creatures of Thought

When I'm putting together updates for my "How AI Works" module I'm all over #RetractionWatch because they're amazing. Here's an example that I'll use in spring semester for how the curation step of #MachineLearning is at least as important as the math itself;

With questions like; "What would happen to a patient who was assessed for stroke visually with an AI model that was trained in that dataset?"

This teacher’s superpower is dealing with the unexpected. She needs it
When CBC News surveyed Alberta teachers in January, many of them said what they wanted most was for a journalist to sit with them and see what teaching is actually like. Here’s what we saw: a complexity that’s often not dramatic, but a constant triaging of needs and, teachers say, an exhausting worry about the students they can’t get to.

The way to do it. Teaching is to ask the right questions. Your kids were so lucky in their home support team! :-)

I once had a student visit me to help him solve a problem he said he was stuck with. He came, I sat him down and asked him to tell me the problem. He explained it to me, and he immediately saw the solution. I hadn't said a word. He left, a happy young man.

Today in the classroom:

I'm not in a really good mental state today. Nothing I can do about it right now, so I'm pressing on.

First year chem is taking a redox quiz. Then we're doing notes on half cells and predicting cell potential based on the electrodes.

Second year chem will do an ester synthesis today. I've got materials for wintergreen and banana. It'll allow me to give them a _tiny_ glimpse at organic reactions.

I have updated my diagram of the database structure for #Moodle 5.2. I now include a changelog file with a link at the top right of each page.

The page for a table which has default data inserted has a link to a page showing that data. You can see an example here

https://www.examulator.com/er/5.2/tables/adminpresets.html

Note the view table data link.

The current home page is here

Please let me know of any inconsistancies before I make 5.2 the default page

My students using AI to summarize required reading material on their stupid-ass earbuds that have no bass, no treble, and no appreciable musical, aural, or social utility.
There, I said it.
