We're really going to have to start throwing Young's "Should Writers Use They Own English?"  into some of these #fediverse feeds, aren't we?

(Go to https://pubs.lib.uiowa.edu/ijcs/article/id/29866/ , click on "download pdf", read it, sit with your feelings, then sit with them a while longer.)

People can #CodeSwitch. It's a thing. You aren't owed a toot in your preferred register.

Similarly, someone discussing ideas in a given register doesn't mean that they're elitist.

People can & do operate in different registers / languages / codes. It's one of our many inalienable human rights.

Feminist Pedagogy for Teaching Online – A Digital Guide

@joon excellent!
I was going through some photos and found this one of Louis Riel's grave in St. Boniface (Winnipeg), MB. His grace is about a five minute walk from my parents home and I wish I got to spend more time here, reflecting on his legacy of self-determination and #indigenous sovereignty. I'm looking forward to visiting again and being prepared to spend more time here.
@soldni I've been holding off watching the finale because I don't want it to end.
@joon we had a display of banned books and posters discussing bans, context, etc. We also held a panel discussion with a librarian, faculty, and some admins about book bans in the US and the connections to anti-LGBTQ+ and anti-Black racism. We're holing more banned books events each month this year!

On this day in 1953

400 photo engravers employed by New York City newspapers go on strike over wages and improved working conditions. 20,000 other newspaper workers represented by other unions refused to cross the photo engravers’ picket lines. The strike ended eleven days later with the workers receiving a $3/week wage increase.

@joon there sure is! From the American Library Association: https://www.ala.org/advocacy/bbooks/frequentlychallengedbooks/top10
