Good morning tooters. We have sunshine & its beautiful even if it’s only 6c & so far a clear blue sky as well. Only getting to 14c but that’s fine if there’s some sun around.m
Not too much in the plans for today, a yin yoga class to tune up my back a bit as it’s feeling a little tight. A massage would be better, but that will have to wait.
I’ll be going down to visit both my sisters 👯‍♀️ for an hour or so & I have half a dozen books for my older sister as well. The 3 of us girls haven’t all been together in many years - could be interesting, should be fun as we all have definite views on different things. I might need to bite my tongue a little 😂. Then a little shopping on the way home & reheating & reducing those stewed feijoas a little more before they go into jars. That will be my day & it’s enough.

Ik heb deze dagen een man gezien zonder schoenen, gewoon, op straat. Niet als zwerver, maar als iemand die bewust kiest voor een andere manier van leven. Zijn voeten vol eelt, maar hij zegt: “Dit zijn mijn zolen.“ En hij voelt zich bijna niet meer ziek.

Dat moment zette me aan het denken. Hoeveel van onze welvaart, onze stress, en onze gezondheidsproblemen, worden niet misschien gewoon veroorzaakt door onze afstand van de natuurlijke staat? Wat als we simpelweg terugkeren naar basis? Thuis op blote voeten lopen. Voelen, balanceren, echt aanwezig zijn bij ons lichaam.

Misschien is dat wel de ultieme revolutie, simpel, natuurlijk, echt.
Want soms moet je gewoon je schoenen uitdoen en luisteren naar wat je lichaam echt nodig heeft.

Balance is a Practice, Not a State

I am not a serious yogi.
This feels important to establish before I say anything else about yoga, because I don’t want you to picture somebody who wakes up at 5 a.m. to flow through an hour of sun salutations before practicing crow pose. Earnest respect for the people who do wake up at 5 a.m. for sun salutations and crow pose: you are built different than me.
The way I’m built is more like a ramshackle old rowboat. I float except for the times when I’m sinking. I do yoga except for the times when I don’t (there’s a joke about boat pose in here somewhere)(I hate boat pose). I write except for the times when I’m not writing.
But like the rowboat keeps bobbing in the waves until someone drags it to shore, I keep doing yoga, and I keep writing.
