Socially awkward penguin, rollin' hard in the land of fediverse chicks and reply guys.

I decided to take advantage of yesterday's rainy/cooler weather and visited #Shenandoah National Park. I hiked the Rose River Falls loop and the Bearfence Scramble. The weather was perfect – very foggy and slightly drizzly. And the waterfalls were gushing from the recent rainfall!

Rose River Falls is one of my favorites in the park. It’s not too easy or too hard, and it follows the river most of the time so you can constantly hear the gorgeous rushing water. Plus it always has the coolest mushrooms. It’s also a sentimental hike for me, as its the one I did the day my grandmother passed away. I’ve hiked it countless times, and it never gets old.

Bearfence is a short trail, only a mile long, but it has a ton of super fun rock scramble. As adults we don’t get to climb nearly enough, and you forget how fun it can be! The summit has a beautiful 360 degree mountain view, though it was completely obfuscated by the fog yesterday. I like tacking this one on to my day when I do shorter hikes in the park, to add a little more mileage and some fun.

Lucky enough to have a bit of a breeze blowing at the moment, so have been doing some gardening. Finished up with the usual chasing bees around with the camera. It's a hobby.

An Art Nouveau style Peacock on top of a building on Buchanan Street in Glasgow. It was created by Alan Dawson in the late 1980s as part of the rennovation of the former Prince of Wales building, designed by John Baird and built in 1854, which now contains the Princes Square shopping centre.

Silbury hill is just amazing

Ooh, I actually have something for #ShowMeYourKnits!

This week, the prompt is garter stitch, and I'm still really enjoying the meditative nature of the ten stitch twist blanket!

Hi, there! The smaller hermit crabs climb easily on a vertical coat of algae growing on the silicone sealing of a tank. (And in the wild, on the algae that grows on everything.) Those needle-sharp "toes" are tough, the leg muscles strong. #VancouverIsland #HermitCrabs #IntertidalInvertebrates #Invertebrates #MarineLife #DailyHermit
morning no.2
Currently blooming in my garden (6B, USA): hollyhocks, brown eyed susans, echinacea, sweet william…

We got there early so we could watch everyone come in.

It was great weather (brisk but the sun was nice) for a little meet out the back of a pub.

And they just kept on coming in! Was a great turnout.

This rare as unicorn shit 4 Cylinder Holden Commodore arrived. We saw this at a petrol station last year or so, my eyes popped out of my head. Completely original, when Holden tried to sell a more efficient model. Didn't sell well.

This gorgeous 61(?) Chrysler was stunning inside and out. Would have been a car for someone rich, with all the mod cons at the time. And those fins are spectacular.

@vwdasher Looks like a '61. Nice car!
@Doppelganger75 I honestly can't remember, the owner told me but that was weeks ago 😆 Possibly one of two in Australia? Just gorgeous.
@vwdasher Last year of the fins in Chryslers.
@Doppelganger75 definitely sticks out from all the later sixties and seventies Chryslers here.
@vwdasher Virgil Exner's work is always 🤌🤌🤌

@vwdasher

Fins are completely ridiculous, but so cool! 😎 I love 'em!

@vwdasher Starfire engine wasn't it? I6 chopped down but presumably not much in the way of balancing.

@vwdasher love that looooooong fan shroud.

And the whole concept of someone lovingly maintaining this car because it's rare, because no-one wanted it, because it was crap.

@nickzoic exactly. Luckily his daughter loves it so it will live on, completely stock. Anyone can have a V8 one, meh, that's easy. But one of these? I bet there's less than a handful left.
@vwdasher it's opel rekord! It feels nice to ride. One of the best seats, you don't get tired, almost good as opel senator mk1.
@mcSlibinas no it's a Holden Commodore. Australian built version.
@vwdasher i know. What i doesn't know - is there any bigger differencies between Opel Rekord and Holden Commodore? I guess there only driver position is different.
@mcSlibinas I would imagine there's a lot to do with cooling the engine for one thing. Much hotter climate here. The V6 and V8 were big sellers here for decades, this one is a very weird and unloved model, being so under powered. I imagine there's probably suspension changes too, to deal with our road surfaces.

@vwdasher oh, now i have unsolved mystery 🤔

Your words sounds very reasonably; i just never compared EU and AUS cars. Their part numbers should be different.
In some cases, at least.
I never ever saw any part like "this radiator is bigger because Australia (or Africa)".

@vwdasher

We rented a green 4 cylinder Commodore for a few days in Adelaide, when my moto was getting repaired on the way back from Perth. I remember a bright green, but it was a loooong time ago.

I also remember it being particularly *underwhelming* to drive. It handled ok, but had no get up and go. My wife's Gemini was more fun. 🤷‍♂️ Later, while they were away, our neighbours lent us their similar vintage six in that exact brown - it was much better.

@thefathippy Oh they were renowned for being gutless. I just love that this chap has kept it bone stock and adores it. And his daughter does too. It's such a rare one now.
@vwdasher How common are Vettes over there?
@Basmitharts not very, all imports basically. So they're an odd one out here.

@vwdasher

Rally legend, right there.

@vwdasher

Some very tidy and delightful beasts in there.

@Arapalla it was a great turnout, lots of interesting cars came along. I have some excellent surprises coming up.

@vwdasher

So, better than new? 😉

I liked the looks of the Leyland Marina, but they certainly developed *a reputation*. 😳

@thefathippy They are a model you just don't see at shows, they were not exactly treasured back in the day! Nice to see something different, not just a sea of Holdens and Fords. Plus the owner of this really loved his car.
@vwdasher OMG! A Fair Lady Z. So gorgeous!
