Western salsify (Tragopogon dubius. Family Asteraceae, the composite flower family)
Salsify is in the Tribe Cichorieae, and like its cousins the dandelions, its large yellow flowers mature into a large puffball. The appearance of the seed tufts gives it one of its alternate names, goat's beard.
