Socially awkward penguin, rollin' hard in the land of fediverse chicks and reply guys.
@stevendbrewer just might be

I’ve talked about my fascination with the idiom “Heavens to Betsy” here before.

I also think these idioms create such interesting mental imagery and wish I could have been there when they were created:

“Barking up the wrong tree”
“Sweating bullets”
“Damp squib”
“Right as rain”
“Let the cat out of the bag.”

Which idioms do you like to wonder about?

If you’re multilingual, feel free to include both or all of the languages you speak if you wish to.

So strange how the sea can simultaneously make my sadness more palpable yet also significantly diminished.

What’s for dinner? Those leftover baby red potatoes mixed with roasted, marinated red bell peppers, black and green olives, basil, and a seasoned dressing. 🥔🫒🌿

I was talking to my friend TC, and he said something that I want to share with you:

"Sometimes people only need the slightest of uplifts. In a way, it's very similar to a paddling concept using traditional Greenland paddles. There's a guy in BC, Paulo Ouelet, who teaches traditional paddling. He talks about how the buoyancy of a Greenland paddle can give you the support you need. The way he demonstrates how *little* you need to be stable is this:

Stand on one foot, on your toes. It's not easy. You wobble around, and maybe even have to put your other foot down to stabilize yourself. Now... have a friend hold out the index finger of *one* hand, and put your index finger on theirs. Suddenly, you can stand almost perfectly still on the toes of one foot.

I like to think life can be much the same. Sometimes all we need is just one *teeeeeeny* bit of help to regain ourselves and be okay."

A friend's help can be as simple as a few words of support, but it can be enough to see you through. Remember this the next time you see someone struggling, and remember: you can be a stabilizing force for them, just by being there.

💙💙💙

Photography walk this morning, looking for butterflies.
Along the edges of the forest roads raspberries are ripening. Food!
First there were the fresh bear prints.
Then he high-tailed it.
Good bear!

This rare as unicorn shit 4 Cylinder Holden Commodore arrived. We saw this at a petrol station last year or so, my eyes popped out of my head. Completely original, when Holden tried to sell a more efficient model. Didn't sell well.

This gorgeous 61(?) Chrysler was stunning inside and out. Would have been a car for someone rich, with all the mod cons at the time. And those fins are spectacular.

@vwdasher Suzuki Jimny! Though there were also Holden-badged Isuzus in the early ’90s.
@autonerdery I know, they did so much wacky stuff, I am honestly not sure if it's a Suzuki or Isuzu! or even something else?
@vwdasher Virgil Exner's work is always 🤌🤌🤌

@vwdasher

Fins are completely ridiculous, but so cool! 😎 I love 'em!

@vwdasher Starfire engine wasn't it? I6 chopped down but presumably not much in the way of balancing.

@vwdasher love that looooooong fan shroud.

And the whole concept of someone lovingly maintaining this car because it's rare, because no-one wanted it, because it was crap.

@nickzoic exactly. Luckily his daughter loves it so it will live on, completely stock. Anyone can have a V8 one, meh, that's easy. But one of these? I bet there's less than a handful left.
@vwdasher it's opel rekord! It feels nice to ride. One of the best seats, you don't get tired, almost good as opel senator mk1.
@mcSlibinas no it's a Holden Commodore. Australian built version.
@vwdasher i know. What i doesn't know - is there any bigger differencies between Opel Rekord and Holden Commodore? I guess there only driver position is different.
@mcSlibinas I would imagine there's a lot to do with cooling the engine for one thing. Much hotter climate here. The V6 and V8 were big sellers here for decades, this one is a very weird and unloved model, being so under powered. I imagine there's probably suspension changes too, to deal with our road surfaces.

@vwdasher oh, now i have unsolved mystery 🤔

Your words sounds very reasonably; i just never compared EU and AUS cars. Their part numbers should be different.
In some cases, at least.
I never ever saw any part like "this radiator is bigger because Australia (or Africa)".

@vwdasher

We rented a green 4 cylinder Commodore for a few days in Adelaide, when my moto was getting repaired on the way back from Perth. I remember a bright green, but it was a loooong time ago.

I also remember it being particularly *underwhelming* to drive. It handled ok, but had no get up and go. My wife's Gemini was more fun. 🤷‍♂️ Later, while they were away, our neighbours lent us their similar vintage six in that exact brown - it was much better.

@thefathippy Oh they were renowned for being gutless. I just love that this chap has kept it bone stock and adores it. And his daughter does too. It's such a rare one now.
@vwdasher How common are Vettes over there?
@Basmitharts not very, all imports basically. So they're an odd one out here.

@vwdasher

Rally legend, right there.

@vwdasher

Some very tidy and delightful beasts in there.

@Arapalla it was a great turnout, lots of interesting cars came along. I have some excellent surprises coming up.

@vwdasher

So, better than new? 😉

I liked the looks of the Leyland Marina, but they certainly developed *a reputation*. 😳

@thefathippy They are a model you just don't see at shows, they were not exactly treasured back in the day! Nice to see something different, not just a sea of Holdens and Fords. Plus the owner of this really loved his car.
@vwdasher omg I had a Marina when I was young! Slammed on the bump-stops with a flipped leaf spring and wound down torsion bars hahaha 😆 it was super tidy too in crisp white with brown vinyl interior. Did not miss the constant blown head baskets and cracked head. Ended up changing the 1800 for a 1750 OHC with twin SU from a donor car.
@nigel they're a real rarity at shows here, nice to see one so loved!
