I don't take many macro photos of bees – they're big & fuzzy, so hard to get much depth of focus, & they dash around madly, making it hard to grab a sharp picture 😬

And when it comes to huge carpenter bees, I also get nervous, scared I'm going to fluff the moment before they bomb off next door πŸ™€

Still, these shots of (I think) a pollen-covered female splay-footed carpenter (Xylocopa valga) aren't horrible πŸ™‚πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Good night! #3GoodThings
1. Finished another chapter in Braille. Only 19 more to go!
2. Downloaded Confess, the Autobiography by Rob Halford and am looking forward to listening to it. Not a fan of Judas Priest but I do enjoy autobiographies of musicians when they read the books themselves. 😁
3. My USB C charging blocks arrived today so I will no longer have trouble charging things now that so many cables are USB C.
Sleep well and may your dreams take you to the stars! πŸ€—πŸ«Άβ€οΈπŸ«‚ #GoodNight #Braille #Autobiographies

This rare as unicorn shit 4 Cylinder Holden Commodore arrived. We saw this at a petrol station last year or so, my eyes popped out of my head. Completely original, when Holden tried to sell a more efficient model. Didn't sell well.

This gorgeous 61(?) Chrysler was stunning inside and out. Would have been a car for someone rich, with all the mod cons at the time. And those fins are spectacular.

@vwdasher Suzuki Jimny! Though there were also Holden-badged Isuzus in the early ’90s.
@vwdasher Looks like a '61. Nice car!
@Doppelganger75 I honestly can't remember, the owner told me but that was weeks ago πŸ˜† Possibly one of two in Australia? Just gorgeous.
@vwdasher Last year of the fins in Chryslers.
@Doppelganger75 definitely sticks out from all the later sixties and seventies Chryslers here.
@vwdasher Virgil Exner's work is always 🀌🀌🀌

@vwdasher

Fins are completely ridiculous, but so cool! 😎 I love 'em!

@vwdasher Starfire engine wasn't it? I6 chopped down but presumably not much in the way of balancing.

@vwdasher love that looooooong fan shroud.

And the whole concept of someone lovingly maintaining this car because it's rare, because no-one wanted it, because it was crap.

@nickzoic exactly. Luckily his daughter loves it so it will live on, completely stock. Anyone can have a V8 one, meh, that's easy. But one of these? I bet there's less than a handful left.
@vwdasher it's opel rekord! It feels nice to ride. One of the best seats, you don't get tired, almost good as opel senator mk1.
@mcSlibinas no it's a Holden Commodore. Australian built version.
@vwdasher i know. What i doesn't know - is there any bigger differencies between Opel Rekord and Holden Commodore? I guess there only driver position is different.
@mcSlibinas I would imagine there's a lot to do with cooling the engine for one thing. Much hotter climate here. The V6 and V8 were big sellers here for decades, this one is a very weird and unloved model, being so under powered. I imagine there's probably suspension changes too, to deal with our road surfaces.

@vwdasher oh, now i have unsolved mystery πŸ€”

Your words sounds very reasonably; i just never compared EU and AUS cars. Their part numbers should be different.
In some cases, at least.
I never ever saw any part like "this radiator is bigger because Australia (or Africa)".

@vwdasher

We rented a green 4 cylinder Commodore for a few days in Adelaide, when my moto was getting repaired on the way back from Perth. I remember a bright green, but it was a loooong time ago.

I also remember it being particularly *underwhelming* to drive. It handled ok, but had no get up and go. My wife's Gemini was more fun. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Later, while they were away, our neighbours lent us their similar vintage six in that exact brown - it was much better.

@thefathippy Oh they were renowned for being gutless. I just love that this chap has kept it bone stock and adores it. And his daughter does too. It's such a rare one now.
@vwdasher How common are Vettes over there?
@Basmitharts not very, all imports basically. So they're an odd one out here.

@vwdasher

Rally legend, right there.

@vwdasher

Some very tidy and delightful beasts in there.

@Arapalla it was a great turnout, lots of interesting cars came along. I have some excellent surprises coming up.

@vwdasher

So, better than new? πŸ˜‰

I liked the looks of the Leyland Marina, but they certainly developed *a reputation*. 😳

@thefathippy They are a model you just don't see at shows, they were not exactly treasured back in the day! Nice to see something different, not just a sea of Holdens and Fords. Plus the owner of this really loved his car.
@vwdasher omg I had a Marina when I was young! Slammed on the bump-stops with a flipped leaf spring and wound down torsion bars hahaha πŸ˜† it was super tidy too in crisp white with brown vinyl interior. Did not miss the constant blown head baskets and cracked head. Ended up changing the 1800 for a 1750 OHC with twin SU from a donor car.
@nigel they're a real rarity at shows here, nice to see one so loved!
