Here is my old account. I've recently migrated to @[email protected], as part of my efforts to move my digital life off of US servers.

Currently bedbound by Severe Myalgic Encephalomyelitis with all the trimmings.

I am become a banshee, keening through the windows of your open browser tabs:
covid is not over, covid is not over, covid is not over.

If any event you're going to has a terrible Covid-19 policy, I invite you to shame them by pointing out an EROTIC HYPNOSIS CONFERENCE does a better job than them.

#RaspberryPi users, I need help! After updating my kernel to version 6.6.67-v8-16k+ and rebooting, my MATE desktop environment won’t start. All I get is a blank screen, and Espeakup keeps repeating "black square black square black square." I can SSH into the system, so it’s partially functional. Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
• Rebooting the Raspberry Pi.
• Checking journalctl logs for errors (I have a full log if needed).
• Reinstalling the kernel with sudo apt install --reinstall raspberrypi-kernel.
• Ensuring my /boot/config.txt is configured correctly.
Some relevant observations from the logs:
• The desktop environment (MATE) and LightDM don’t seem to start.
• The error vc4-drm axi:gpu: [drm] Cannot find any crtc or sizes appears multiple times in the kernel logs, suggesting a GPU/display issue.
• Services like rpi-connect-wayvnc.service are failing repeatedly.
• Espeakup works in TTY mode, but no graphical interface is available.
Does anyone have suggestions on how to diagnose or fix this without reinstalling Raspberry Pi OS? Could this be related to the kernel update? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!#Linux #Kernel #RaspberryPiOS #MATE #Accessibility #TTY #SSH #Debugging #LinuxHelp #Tech #Technology
Salting the vibes at #38c3 along with people wearing some stylish PPE. Not enough people wearing masks, but I'm happy to see all of youse who are!

Lately my HEPA filters have been giving off an awful smell. I don’t know if my MCAS is becoming worse and I’m more sensitive - or if something changed with their production.

Either way I can barely be in the same room as my purifiers after a filter change.

Has anyone experienced this? I bought them 3 months early so I could take them out of their packaging and let them off gas and yet they still stink.

Evidently, 'Stick Nation' is a thing on IG and TikTok where people appreciate and review sticks. Some of these reviews were highlighted on the radio/podcast segment here:.

https://www.wbur.org/hereandnow/2024/12/19/stick-nation-community

🌳 I like this idea, but the 'official stick reviews' I heard were not that great. Don't want to sound uppity, but I think Mastodonians can do better, based on #Mosstodon, #LichenSubscribe, #MushroomMonday, #Nature, and other related posts here.

🌲 Just saying. I'll be out this winter at times checking out sticks. Interested in seeing any reviews you have.

Someone posted here about the year's best stick per IG:

Christmas can be an especially difficult period for people who are socially isolated.

If you're feeling lonely, whether alone or among other people, there is a group and a hashtag you can follow which encourages friendly chit chat:

➡️ @joinin

➡️ #JoinIn

It works like this:

1. Follow the tag and/or group
2. Post about what you are up to in everyday life (cooking, walking the dog etc) and include the tag and/or group
3. Reply to someone else's Join In posts in a friendly supportive manner

Cochrane, by dropping their planned review of exercise for #MECFS, disrespects the energy and time of those involved in that review AND leaves the existing review supporting exercise for ME/CFS and #LongCovid.

Our petition calls for its withdrawal,

I'm considering writing a #Blog post about how #Technology can be more #Accessible and #Inclusive for people with #Disabilities and #ChronicIllness. One example that comes to mind is the need for more personalized customization in health tracking features on #Wearables like the #AppleWatch.

For me, the exercise and stand goals aren’t realistic due to my health limitations. On bad days, the constant reminders to move can feel discouraging rather than motivating. While there’s the option to turn notifications off entirely, I still want to track my movement or standing progress in a more flexible way. It would make a huge difference if the activity rings and goals could be fully customizable to accommodate individual abilities and needs.

To my fellow #Disabled and #ChronicPain warriors: What other areas do you think tech could be more inclusive? Whether it’s device features, apps, or software design, I’d love to hear your thoughts! Would you also be okay with me including your name or username and a quote from you in the blog post? I want to uplift your voices as part of the conversation.

Although this post is meant to elevate disabled voices, developers, designers, and usability experts are welcome to join the discussion and learn how to create more inclusive tech.

Let’s brainstorm ways to make tech work better for everyone! 🌟 Thank you in advance for sharing your insights!

Canada Post doesn't "lose money". It's a service, it *costs* money. No one ever says the military "loses" billions of dollar a year. No one says the RCMP loses money. No one ever says the police "lose" money.

But when it's something that benefits people - suddenly it's not a cost, it's a loss.
