I'm in need of some #linuxhelp again:

I have two computers running #Manjaro, both being on the same wifi network and I am able to send single files with #KDE Connect between them.

But I would like to move whole directories with tens of thousands of files. In Dolphin, both computers appear on the other under "Devices", but when I click on them, both show the error "target has no Remote Filesystem plugin" and show no files.

I can't find a single page describing this error.

Alright, I feel I am at a loss with no idea how to proceed.

New notebooks appear to be only able to boot from USB sticks formatted in fat32.

All the Linux tools for creating a bootable USB drive only seem to make the sticks formatted in iso9660.

Is there anything I can do to install Linux on a notebook? I never had this issue with any of my old notebooks before.

A little #linux help? Trying to install Phototonic 3.1 but getting a qmake error. Anyone know of source to save me building it? For some reason the #debian family only has version 2.1 available, and there's no DEB file, appimage or Flatpack out there.

[SOLVED]

I'm configuring a static IPv6 address on a device (withing the CIDR range known by my router).

The device itself shows me its IPv6 address as the one I configure, plus another one given by the router (on the same LAN interface).

The device can ping other IPv6 on my network and public IPv6.

But I can't ping this device with the static IPv6 from my network: "no route to host".

Do I have to configure something else so the IPv6 is visible and pingable from others? Like, something to make systemd-networkd say to the router "I am this IPv6 by the way"?

It's on Debian 13 and I use systemd-networkd.

Any help is welcome (except to tell me to use something else)!

Laptop with Wilma 22.1 Xfce, trying to upgrade to Zara 22.2 Xfce

1st attempt

  • I ran "sudo apt update"
  • Then Mint Update, Upgrade to new Mint 22.2.
  • Got "dpkg interrupted" error. Message said to manually run a dpkg command ("sudo dpkg --configure -a"). I did so.
  • Command complete, Mint Upgrade said I could proceed to upgrade. I did so, but... did it actually upgrade? I don't think it did.
  • Checked System Reports, still says I could upgrade, so I rebooted in case that was necessary to complete the upgrade.
  • After reboot, System Reports still offered upgrade to 22.2
  • 2nd attempt

  • I clicked the "Upgrade to 22.2" button in System Reports. Greys out but then... Nothing? I click again.
  • System Reports frozen, other things seem to work. I waited. And waited.
  • I looked at Task Manager but nothing stood out to me.
  • Rebooted, System Reports still offers upgrade to 22.2
  • 3rd attempt
    Essentially same as 2nd attempt.

Looking to solve a workflow problem. Boosts welcome.

I want to be able to edit text files on my laptop and on my phone, seamlessly. Currently, I use Dropbox, and it works great for this on my Windows laptop and my Android phone. I tried migrating away from Dropbox a couple of years ago, when they started putting in "AI" features, but I couldn't find anything else that had the features I use *all the time*.

Can any desktop #Linux users offer recommendations for a low- to mid-grade image editing program? I'm looking to replace Paint.NET when I migrate from Windows. I want something with multi-layer capability, effects, etc., but let's face it, I'm not a professional artist; I'll mostly be using it to stitch together memes.

I know of That Program Whose Name Is a Slur. I'm dubious about it partly because of that, and also bc I've heard its UI is awful. There are better options, right?
