"UN: Israeli war on Gaza leaves tens of thousands with hearing impairments
NEW YORK, June 27, 2026 (WAFA) β The United Nations revealed on Saturday that tens of thousands of people in the Gaza Strip have suffered hearing impairments as a result of repeated explosions caused by Israeli occupation airstrikes in the enclave since October 2023.
The United Nations stated in a report issued on the occasion of the International Day of Deafblindness, marked annually on June 27, that many persons with disabilities in Gaza have lost their assistive devices, including wheelchairs and hearing aids.
According to the United Nations, the war on Gaza has deepened the vulnerability of this group, noting that some people are unable to hear evacuation orders, cannot see their way, or are unable to move without assistance, placing them at double risk in an environment where danger zones and displacement areas are rapidly changing."

πͺπΊ The #European Commission has welcomed an #EU agreement to strengthen enforcement of passenger rights across all #transport modes. The new rules aim to help travellers better understand their rights during disruptions, request refunds or compensation through common forms, and access clearer complaint procedures when claims are not resolved.
The agreement also sets a clearer refund process for flights booked through intermediaries. Once an intermediary receives a refund from an airline, it must pass the payment to the passenger within seven days, including fares and applicable fees. Passengers with #disabilities or reduced mobility will receive stronger protections, with airlines required to carry necessary companions free of charge when accompaniment is required for safety reasons. The rules will now need formal approval before adoption.
