Raging against the machine in Texas.
Mostly insects, plants, and fungi.
I’m definitely not an expert, but I am trying to teach myself about the natural world around me in an attempt to save it. My activism is largely just trying to steward the very tiny space I occupy.
.
I'm a gardener who prioritizes county specific native plants.
USDA zone 9B

A species of Leptoglossus (Leaf-footed bug) they are cute when they aren't on my tomatoes. This one is nectaring on a species of Oenethera, sold to me as Gaura (Oenothera lindheimeri), but it is bigger than any I've seen. This could be because it was (ethically) sourced from a wild population, or it's one of the many Oenothera species residing in the Coastal Tall Grass Prairies in my region. #entomology #nativeplants#rewilding #invertebrateconservation #invertebrates

@potterybyosa I was thinking about our conversation, re: Fritillaries, and remembered this from a few years ago. I was walking through Sam Houston National Forest and found Gulf Fritillaries (Dione vanillae) nectering on a native species of ground Orchid (Spiranthes spp.) The photos aren't great, but I wanted to share them!

It's baby anole season, which is basically the time of year I stalk every baby Green Anole (Anolis carolinensis) to try and take a million photos. They must all think I'm really weird. This little one is hiding behind the leaf of my Button Bush (Cephalanthus occidentalis)

Okra, amaranth leaf (Efo Shoko), celosia leaf (Chicago Callaloo), yardlong beans, pumpkins, and cowpeas, all interplanted among native plants (excluding the cosmos). Gardening in SE Texas, USDA zone 9b.
The seeds for the Bamyeh Falastinia Okra, Efo Shoko, and Chicago Callaloo were bought through True Love Seeds, and I absolutely recommend them.

The Two-spotted Longhorn Bee (Melissodes bimaculatus) is another one of my frequent garden visitors. You can see a male in the middle of a Showy Evening Primrose Oenothera speciosa) and a female hovering close by Lemon Beebalm (Monarda citriodora.)

It seems my garden is popular with American Bumble bees (Bombus pensylvanicus), I see them regularly, Someone told me bees generally favor purple and yellow blooms, and many of the native plants and vegetables growing in my garden are accommodating in that regard.

My garden inspector Ruthie, making sure everything meets her approval.
