Took a bunch of photos of winter sowing seedlings progressing earlier this week for sanity reasons. 🌱 #nativeplants 🦀⛵ #Maryland 🌎 #ecoregion65
I never realize how much black cherry (Prunus serotina) we're surrounded by until they all start blooming at once. Maybe there's some chokecherry or other cherries in there, too. #nature #foraging #bloomscrolling #zone6b #zone7a #nativeplants
Third: downy birch (Betula pubescens) with its characteristic male catkins and the female flowers stand erect.

Spotted what I think is local wild hopniss/American groundnut (Apios americana) in an area that's regularly being mown to the ground. I took a small tuber and will see how it does in a grow bag later this summer, would love a chance to watch it develop up close. I'm curious if our local type are diploid (fertile and producing edible beans in addition to tubers) or triploid (sterile, no beans.) I'm sure the tubers are small compared to the improved varieties, but that's fine. #nature #foraging #nativeplants #zone6b #zone7a #gardening
