As my mobility has nosedived, I'm spending more time photographing little things in nature, in particular invertebrates. Modern sharpening / denoising software can make up for the fact that my kit isn't really up to the job of photographing 3mm long spiders that won't stand still, despite the lens being one of the best around (E-M1, OM 90mm macro). This is one of the Money Spiders, Microlinyphia pusilla. #Spider #Invertebrate #Nature #Macro #Photography #Arachnid
Another cute little snail, probably part of a group called ambersnails. So tiny.

A very cool find! I spotted this termite (Zootermopsis spp.) the other day with a little springtail (Cheirotoma spp.) riding along its back. Apparently those springtails are known to be phoretic, i.e. hitchhikers, on termites.

You look like you could use an emotional support isopod.

Just created this photo, new species or a range extension, found during a walk in the woods today. Lirceus of some kind or another.

"Most striking of all, we found the oldest #evidence for the group to which we #humans belong: the deuterostomes. Several of these specimens have a stalk & tentacles, & closely resemble a group of #Cambrian #fossils called cambroernids. These now-extinct #animals are related to living starfish & acorn worms - the closest #invertebrate relatives to humans." See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deuterostome.
Humans’ closest invertebrate ancestors date back much further than thought – how we discovered the fossils that show this

Did Earth’s major diversification event really happen in one sudden explosion? Our fossil discovery suggests not.

I had a request for a "Bug" based on open source reference photos...so have a Carabus auronitens!

My son spontaneously started this project where he’s claiming otherwise unclaimed days and declaring an animal awareness day for unusual and lesser known animals. (You can follow along on Bluesky.)

It’s got me thinking about lesser known animals in my portfolio, like this wandering anemone. Phlyctenactis tuberculosa, the wandering sea anemone or swimming anemone, is a species of venomous sea anemone 🧵1/
