I was afraid of spiders for many years, but jumping spiders like this one (Phidippus johnsoni) won me over with their charm and curious behaviour. For #EarthDay, it's always worth taking a second look at things we might not have affection for yet.

My linocut shows 2 blue mussel. The blue mussel (Mytilus edulis), or common mussel, is a medium-sized edible marine bivalve mollusc in the family Mytilidae. They are aptly called common mussels and are found on temperate beaches worldwide. As my mobility has nosedived, I'm spending more time photographing little things in nature, in particular invertebrates. Modern sharpening / denoising software can make up for the fact that my kit isn't really up to the job of photographing 3mm long spiders that won't stand still, despite the lens being one of the best around (E-M1, OM 90mm macro). A very cool find! I spotted this termite (Zootermopsis spp.) the other day with a little springtail (Cheirotoma spp.) riding along its back. Apparently those springtails are known to be phoretic, i.e. hitchhikers, on termites.
