I had a request for a "Bug" based on open source reference photos...so have a Carabus auronitens!
I used research-grade photos by Ludivine Lamare to figure out how the iridescence and anatomy worked. https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/207209208

My son spontaneously started this project where he’s claiming otherwise unclaimed days and declaring an animal awareness day for unusual and lesser known animals. (You can follow along on Bluesky.)
It’s got me thinking about lesser known animals in my portfolio, like this wandering anemone. Phlyctenactis tuberculosa, the wandering sea anemone or swimming anemone, is a species of venomous sea anemone 🧵1/

Just found this bee in my garden on the paving, looking very forlorn. Was walking a little bit, but a long way from any food source or shelter.
Moved it to a largish clump of red dead nettle (Lamium purpureum) which is in flower.
I think the bee is a hairy-footed flower bee (Anthophora plumipes) which the iRecord app seemed to agree - though need it to be positively identified by an expert.
Quite the floofy cutie! Hope it appreciated the move and survives.

There is a hoverfly which can plot an interception course. Highly sophisticated and rapid computing but strictly limited to tracking females of the species - not even prey. Complexity but very tight use of resources.
Dragonflies don't see us as 'hominid'. We are either 'large object that was there last time I looked' or 'large object which has just arrived'. Quite advanced perception but again using very sparse resources.
We tend to only notice their lack of (resource intensive) generalism.
To us, insects eat, move and reproduce. We discount that they may enjoy, compute and medicate. Our insular ideology is a barrier to looking.
