Not even the seedling trays are safe. 🐌

I thought keeping the courgette (*Cucurbita pepo*) seedlings in pots would buy them some time before facing the garden's slug population — apparently not. This little snail found its way in anyway and made itself very comfortable on a freshly sprouted leaf. You have to admire the determination, if nothing else.

The eternal battle between gardener and gastropod continues. Round one to the snail.

🇧🇪🇳🇱
Zelfs de kweekpotjes zijn niet veilig. 🐌

Current stage of me vs the overwhelming bindweed vs protecting ground nesting birds:

I think the nest that alerted me is done. I know there were some hatchlings for a bit, left them alone; now I don’t see any birds visiting and I can see the nest with one egg. (Photo) Dud? Identifiable? When can I move the nest?

I need to mow the patch because the bindweed is going to dominate everything otherwise. Photo: a grass as scaffolding. And it’s BUDDING

The sunflowers are leaving the nest! 🌻

A first batch of sunflower seedlings (*Helianthus annuus*) has been hardened off and planted out into the open ground. The first two varieties to make it outside this year are 'Giant Double' and 'Moonwalker' — one a classic towering yellow giant, the other a more elegant pale yellow with a dark centre. More varieties are still waiting their turn!

The labels are in place, the soil is freshly turned, and now it's up to the sun to do its work. Excited to see how tall these will get this summer!

De zonnebloemen verlaten het nest! 🌻

Late May patio garden update!

The tomatoes are starting to get nice and big, tomatillos are fruiting and the sun flowers are starting to bloom! The potatoes should be coming along nicely now. Hopefully in the next month we can start harvesting them.

Not much of a harvest today, but it sure is tasty…

Snow peas, strawberries, endive, mint and radishes. And a leek (not in the picture).

I'm growing quite of few of these this year!

10 Edible Plants That Attract #Pollinators

By Robin Shreeves
Updated May 01, 2021

"While many plants are edible and even downright delicious, only some are also able to attract pollinators. Pollinators are bugs and animals that carry pollen from one plant to another, helping them to make fruit, seeds, and plant offspring. Pollinator species are essential for the natural pollination crucial to earth's ecosystems, and adding plants to your garden that attract pollinators, like bees, birds, and butterflies, can help your plants flourish without using fertilizers or other undesirable substances.

Here are 10 plants that will both attract pollinators and provide nutritious food for you and your loved ones.

1. Squash
2. Basil
3. Green Beans
4. Lavender
5. Oregano
6. Apple Tree
7. Radish
8. Dandelion
9. Sunflower
10. Honeysuckle [I would avoid consuming honeysuckle berries unless one is certain of the variety, since some varieties are toxic] "
