@itsfoss nah, people will go through yet another Stockholm syndrome cycle:
1. I'll never install win11 - I'll use ltsc and iot versions of win10
2. Damn, my apps and games aren't supported
3. Okay I'll update to win11, but to a de-bloated version
4. You know, this win11 thing doesn't look that bad, I'm getting used to it
5. (Windows 12 releases), how did they ruin my favorite win11 like this, I'll never install win12 - I'll use ltsc and iot versions of win11

It's worse than that. They are killing completely operable PCs because they don't have the right chipset to run what Windows wants for security. Even those PCs running 11 might be affected by future updates because of it.

I hope that people stop the wave of ewaste about to happen by trying out Linux. I heard that in the EU there's been a jump in usage.

@MyWoolyMastadon @alihan_banan @itsfoss This is one of the biggest problems with Windows 11 for me. The other is that you pay crazy money for software that you are obligated to use with their account.At least that's what it was like according to recent research and videos I watched .

Really? I heard #Microsoft does this to be able to run its #AI on people's #computers. The idea is, make sure people have the necessary resources to be #tracked.

There was a great #interview/#discussion about privacy, including this #topic. It was between a #woman and a #man, done #remotely. The man was the one who taught the woman about the importance of #privacy, and in that interview they were discussing various topics in general. IIRC, the man's name was #Megan or so. 🤔 If anyone knows the #video and has the #link, please #share it, I need it.

@itsfoss Just wiped Windows from my gaming PC yesterday and slapped CachyOS on it. Nobody can say I waited until the last minute since I still had 2 days left!

For some people Linux is a gateway OS that leads to things like BSD.

@itsfoss i just use windows 11 for music stuff… id rather switch to mac. but linux has been getting more stuff lately for support. open source alternatives. i also heard Bitwig is good

@juneonline @itsfoss Reaper can be intimidating, even for me, and I have been using it since version .98 and it is now on 7.4 something. When I switched to Linux about 10 years ago, I tried other things, but I was SO happy when they made a Linux version. I find that whenever I am confused, the online community is very helpful and in dire cases, there is always a video. Bugs are often fixed in days and I have had issues addressed by Justin Frankel, the developer, himself.

However, it is not at all like Ableton, so it might not be for you. I think that most Linux musicians who are not using Reaper are using Ardour.

For those that don't want to take that route, take solace in the fact that when I ungraded my wife's laptop it went smoothly, just like any other Windows 10 update. And right after that I went into Settings-Apps and deleted Co-Pilot.

@itsfoss my kids have moved several computers onto Linux in our house already. It’s very liberating. Everything runs much faster and more smoothly without the Windows-bloat.

@itsfoss I'm running Windows 10 on a 2018 Intel Mac mini. Not too sure how much I care about just staying on Win10 and leaving it be.

@itsfoss It's pretty charitable to call what Microsoft does "support" even when they are still providing software updates.

Win 11 is by far the worst operating system I have ever used. My 12 year old MacBook Air runs faster on Linux than my 2 year old work laptop does on Win 11, not to mention my work laptop locks up and/or crashes at least once a day.

- Any tool that can edit/extract/inject files from .trd images (ZX Spectrum BetaDisk) would be a decent start.
- Software that can serve files to an Interface1 for ZX Spectrums.
- Emulators for Pentagon/Scorpion/Evolution/Sprinter Clone variants (the later has a special MAME build that only exists for Windows).

I still run DOS and Windows 7. They work fine.
