Hello #Linux users. Have you uninstalled #Windoze yet? I heard that it's full of #AI and #slopware

🖖 Common sense becomes common again!

“This is not a recommendation or a preference, it is a mandate. Germany’s decision to anchor ODF at the heart of its national sovereign stack confirms what we have argued for years: open, vendor-neutral document formats are not a niche concern for some technology specialists and FOSS advocates.
They are a fundamental infrastructure for democratic, interoperable and sovereign public administrations.” ―https://itsfoss.com/news/germany-digital-stack-mandate/

Big Win for Open Source as Germany Backs Open Document Format

The Deutschland-Stack names ODF and PDF/UA as the only permitted document formats for German public administrations.

It's FOSS

@seanpm2001 XD There should be defined limits and not just by hardware limitations.

I think that this is a step in the right direction for #microslop. But let's take it a step further. No more ads in #Windoze. No preinstalled bloatware. Stop OneDrive OOBE nonsense. And more! #shoutingintothevoid https://blogs.windows.com/windows-insider/2026/03/20/our-commitment-to-windows-quality/

Ich war ja echt froh, dass unsere Große ab dem Herbst an einer tollen, modernen niederländischen Universität (#Twente) ihr Studium beginnt.

Was soll ich nun sagen?

The irony of #Windoze nagging me to review and complete piffling energy efficiency settings for my Uni laptop, whilst forever keeping trying to bypass my refusal to have anything to do with #Copilot is off the scale...

To those who still have a dedicated #Microsoft #Windows machine solely for configuring niche peripherals, no more need for moral anxiety, they get detected using a Windoze virtual machine with QEMU/KVM (requires at least a system with partial TPM 2.0 support): https://www.arscyni.cc/file/software.html#windoze:~:text=Microslop%20Windoze%20virtual%20machine

It takes slightly more attention to set it up than Oracle VirtualBox, but it runs ten times faster.

Mostly excellent free software | Angelino Desmet

A list of mostly excellent free software that I use.

@pluralistic I run notepad++ via #Wine on #Ubuntu because I use it on #Windoze ...I really miss #Atom editor😟

For many years now, once or twice a year I would switch to using exclusively Debian for performance reasons (including in games), and then switch back to using both Debian and Windows for convenience reason.

I think with this year amount of AI slop involved in Windows now I can finally say I will not actually ever be going back to Windows on a machine that I use regularly.

I own a windows 11 license, but Ive decided not to sunk-cost-fallacy myself by believing there is any value in that license.

I would not normally use hashtags on a post like this, but I really like how mad Microsoft is getting at the fact that people are calling them microslop now.

Ya'll know I talk about Linux a lot. Some of you may not have a clue what I am talking about. Linux is a operating system that is free and replaces Windows, ChromeOS or MacOS. Linux runs great on older hardware. If you have a machine that is running slow or is no longer receiving security updates, you can replace the operating system with Linux. No need to buy a new machine.

There are a lot of variations of Linux, to point that it can get overwhelming which one to choose. Let me give you a starting point.

If you are new to Linux, I recommend trying these variations. These links will let you 'test drive' a Linux operating system to find which you like best. If you find one you like, I'll help you install it. If you install it and hate it, you can always try a different one.

There are several other variations listed at #^https://distrosea.com/ Go ahead and try some of them! Feel free to comment with your favorites or your best suggestion for new Linux users!

*keep in mind, you are testing an operating system in a browser. It's going to seem a little slow or laggy, but it has been my experience with every Linux variation I have installed, that they all run smoother and faster than Windows. Linux is a lighter operating system and doesn't consume all of the resources like Microsoft Windows does.
