X unable to start
Today when I started my laptop, X refused to start, saying it couldn’t find any monitors. Last night my laptop wouldn’t shut down properly, so I had to kill it with the power button. This might be related. Even though rolling back to an older kernel didn’t work, installing a new one via apt get update && apt get upgrade did allow me to boot normally after restarting. I’m now on 5.15.0-174-generic. I hope this helps anyone who runs into this as well.

My Linux Mint machine shuts down properly. Could it be a hardware problem?
I have an old computer that would sometimes do as you described, refusing to turn off and stay off, rebooting itself.
To stop this, I push the power button on the computer case with my finger, holding it for several seconds, until the power shuts off.
My Linux Mint laptop strangely goes black screen for a few seconds every few minutes. I can sometimes still move the cursor but everything seems frozen. I've tried searching for this problem, but haven't been able to find a description that fits my bill. The problem seems to come out of the blue, then goes away for a while, then comes back. Any advice?
