Back from a break and started implementing basic sound stuff to ease back into it. Goopy-goops now makes sounds when it moves! :) Interesting how being used to do Sound Design for linear media has me re-think a lot of things when doing it for interactive. Every sound has to be super self-contained and "modular". I'll record some progress video as soon as I have something! Still need to adjust somethings in regards to the core gameplay as well.

Finally back to working on this! After some struggle to create a Blueprint that helps manage Water Leaks type VFX through the levels, here's the result for now! :) This allows me to easily have water dripping (from small few drips to rain-like stuff), toggle running water (water-fall type of thing), and the splashes effects can also be toggled and are automatically positioned at the end of the waterfall with the correct scaling, etc. #gamedev #realtimevfx #unrealengine #IndieGame #MastoArt

@visionsmind Would it hurt performance a lot to leave the trails in place permanently and have them change colour slowly? Trails like that can be tremendous navigation aids, and it's fun to see the mess you make in solving puzzles and exploring a location :D (Of course, that's not useful/appropriate for every game.)
@eishiya Hah! Although I think it would be interesting (I've spent my share amount of time just "scribbling around" with the effect while working on the thing). I agree it be a fun extra thing, but i the other hand, beyond performance there's the possibility that it could make the space visually too noise and distracting from other things that would be more important to focus on as you play.
@visionsmind Aye, that's a risk too. Permanent marks have to be designed carefully to be subtle enough to not distract, and a big glowing trail is definitely not subtle :'D
@eishiya Yes! Exactly! It has to strike some sort of balance there
@eishiya There is still lots to be done that will add up visually. Especially when I start implementing vfx for the rest of the mechanics of the came and detail the environment. It could be an interesting idea to save for later, though. Maybe a specific map that would use that in a way, or a setting/mode that can be turned on/off. But for now the project is just a prototype for learning/practice purposes so we'll see πŸ˜€
