A recent study from Queen Mary University of London suggests that electric cars and heat pumps in the UK may not be saving carbon emissions as much as people think. This is because the UK's electricity is still made partly from fossil fuels. The study says the country needs to improve its power grid and make more clean energy first.

#Ember are simply wrong about both history and the future. If the #UKGrid continues to be dominated by #Gas, #Nuclear, #BioMass etc., then all is lost in terms of the benefits of #ZeroCoal. The Political Courage & Moral Leadership required to #Decarbonize the #UKGrid has simply not existed for decades. The #Tories are #CarbonGrifters, much less #Nihilists. Even with the huge financial benefits that #RenewableEnergy brings they could not break their allegiances to #FossilFuels, #Nuclear & #Hydropower. Will #Labour do better? Color me Doubtful.

Is this really the problem? In #truth, the #UK exports much of the #Electricity that it creates from #RenewableEnergy. You will not have a #NewGrid in the #UK until you stop this behavior. #ProTip: #OnshoreWind, #Nuclear, #Hydro, #BioFuels, #GeoThermal, #HydrogenGas ... will not solve it either. Throwing out the #Tories will go a long way however. #UKGrid.
